56 ford fairlane HT
-
Hello All.
So i have a 56 ford fairlane victoria. It has power steering and front disc brakes. I am not sure if the disc brakes are original or not. (the car was so hacked when i got it, it's hard to tell). So the power steering rack looks really bad (i know its original). It leeks really bad and just looks worn out. Now i know these are rebuildable, but it is really expensive. So i was thinking about changing it all out to something a little newer. I dont think i want to use mustang 2 because they have been priced out of my price range. plus i think they are a little on the small side. But what something out of a bigger car like a T-bird or something. What would you guy's recamend using??? i have also herd of using ford van parts. I want to keep it ford also. -
Refer to your post on H.A.M.B. You'll get more info there in a day than you'll get here in a month ....

Discs are absolutely not original on any 56 car. The problem with finding a car that's been butcherd is how much of the mods are any good. The discs could have mickey mouse done and be more dangerous than the original drums. ALL steering systems are rebuildable. It will be a lot les expensive and complicated to simply use original parts to get uour front end up to par. 1932- 56 cars and pick up parts- http://www.cgfordparts.com/Early_Ford_Parts.htm this place has all of parts to rebuild your front end and there are more places on the web you should search out.
Swapping parts with T-birds or Mustangs is not going to be any cheaper than rebuilding original components in the long run because you still have to purchase the non-stock part and then jack around trying to get it to work. Unless you are super experienced with welding, fabrication and front end geometry you'll end up with dangerous piece of crap. -
BD----granada/versailles disc set ups fit right on the 56---you use the spindle -caliper- rotor----they are notable for a plastic air vent to cool the rotor---if the air vent is broken off--check the pads with new ones to see if they are the same
maybe the car hacker actually did one thing right----bob
