I joined in 2004 shortly after purchasing the Jet to have a larger pool of information available to me. It may have been easier to ask who is NOT in the club, because I would imagine that the majority of us on here are members. This topic gives us a good reason to talk it up, though, right? :)

Paul, I think you brought up a key point that makes this club a lot more fun. By not having judging, it takes some of the edge off and brings out more cars whether they're $200K restorations, aging originals, amatuer restorations, worn out drivers, weathered work in progress, or modifieds. I can appreciate them all and it makes each get together more interesting. I don't know how many other clubs meet under those rules, but it certainly has been a positive in my opinion. You guys are a great bunch and the forum has been a terrific and supportive information exchange for new and old members.

Have been a member for approx. 45 years, was the National Treasurer for 7. Helped found the So. Calif. Chapter, etc., enjoyed many meets, have HET cronies both here & abroad, and belong to the Railton Club too.

Over the years I've owned over 100 Hudsons from '13 to '54 but have just 2 now as "gittin' old", both convertible coupes, a '33 T8 & a '35 Railton.

Also wish to acknowledge all the help I've gotten from members over the years in both parts needed & their expert knowledge.

Joined in '64. Have met many great people, and have made some wonderful friends though the H.E.T club. Been to club events in U.S. and Australia, and of course here in N.Z. We do an annual "Back-blocks Safari", so why don;t you come down sometime and we'll show you what REAL H.E.T. motoring is! I had the privelege of taking a group of U.S. H.E.T members on a brief tour here a few years ago, and would be happy to do the same again if any one interested. And I go along with the "No judging" comment - it doesn't what condition your car is in, you can enjoy it, and each other's company. What a great bunch of people. Best wishes to all for the New Year,

    Geoff.

I guess I'm a pretty new member as I bought my first Hudson in Feb. and joined the H.E.T. in March of this year. I have enjoyed reading and learning from other very knowledgeable H.E.T. members. My father had 1946 and 1953 Hudsons when I was a kid. I remember them well.

I have a 49 Super Six 4 door sedan, and just bought a 1950 Pacemaker that is being picked up in the next day or two. Hooked on Hudsons. Richie.

Back 1968, before I had a driver's license, or a Hudson, I joined HET. I am really grateful I got to meet the founder's and many of the orginal people who formed the club. I stay with the club because it a great way to make new friendships and learn.

I just joined last month. Bought the 'plane a year ago and I also felt the pressure to belong to the club. I DO enjoy the publication.

I belong to several other car groups because of my other cars and I notice a LOT of bickering here between old time members. Not sure if it is just a phase I am witnessing or if emotions run wild with Hudsons. Still feeling it out.

If my old 40 coupe had to face a judge she wouldn't even get started. She'll run great, and be presentable, and I'll have fun with her, but with my budget, time and talent, she'll never be perfect.

My family has always had Hudsons since the 40's and have been members since 1963.We have never been without a Hudson and of course,Hudson projects!! I was brought home from the hospital in a Hudson in'58.It's been a way of life. The friendship, knowledge and direction the HET club has taken me in life,I FEEL IS PRICELESS! I know that might sound goofy or crazy to some, but it is how I feel from the heart. When I met my wife, she had taken me to meet the parents. She had previuosly told her parents that I liked and restored Hudsons.Upon meeting her folks, her Dad asked why I liked Hudsons.I told him the cars and people who own them are the best in the world. He said that he had something to show me,so he went into the bedroom and got something out, holding it in a closed hand,he asked me what I thought it might be??.I guessed a few things but would have never guessed in a million years what it was.?? After opening his hand,I looked at this item and it was his ID badges from the H.M.C.C.for 37-40.I just looked at her[my wife]and said it was just destiny that we met!!!!!!! As Geoff Clark said, friends from far and near, different continents and countries. This Club is unique, just like the cars!!! DW:)

I joined HET around the mid 1960's after buying a nice 1950 Commodore six. I continued to add to my Hudsons for several years later and attended a number of national and regional meets. I sponsored the Spoon River meet here in Illinois for several years. I sold my cars in the 1970'and 1980's, dropped out of HET then, and was without a Hudson until four or five years ago when I purchased another 1950 Commodore, this one an eight. I rejoined HET at that time. Last year I bought a nice 1951 Commodore 8 coupe. At age 74, I am now in it for the long (or the short!) haul as the Lord sees fit! I love Hudsons and have owned many since my first, a 1936 Hudson six, that I got in 1949. Dee Kruzan Macomb, Ill.

Joined the HET Club in 2003 after purchasing my 53 Hornet sedan from another club member. Have driven it about 2000 miles and get a thrill each and every time I head out onto the country roads with this fine old car. Was able to attend my first national meet this past summer in Auburn and got to chat with a number of fine gentleman about Hudsons including Ken Holmes, Paul Schuster, Dave Kostansek, Walt Mordenti, members of the Renner clan, Sam Jackson, Bob Pickens, Dale Cooper, and so many others who kindly gave their time, advice, and encouragement. Even got to watch Ken Schulte et al perform a valve adjustment on a 54 Hornet in the hotel parking lot as well as pick up a few spare parts at a fair price. Hope to do it all again in 2009 in Detroit. Best wishes. ArtS

I've been a member on and off (currently on)since I got my '51 Hornet in 1981 at age 16. I agree that there needs to be a way to join online. I guarantee membership would nearly double. My membership would probably never lapse if this were available. Otherwise, the club has provided years of enjoyment and many friends.

I got acquainted with Hudson-built cars when I was fifteen. Started driving in Mom's '37T, shared two subsequent cars with her (38T and 40H6), then starting buying my own, beginning with a 38H8 sedan. Ended up with a string of eleven (one at a time), the last being a '51 Hornet convertible which my wife and I sold in late '57. Fast forward to 1981 when I joined the club, since I was nearing the end of a 30 year Air Force career and would finally be settling in one place where a hobby car would be feasible. Finally got one in '89, a '36 H8 convertible needing full-up restoration. Became active in the club then, attending our first meet, the Central Regional in Detroit, then the National in Portland. The first members we met were the Gleydura family, so we had a very favorable impression of the club and its members right from the start. It's a wonderful organization!

Been a member since 1965. Had my coupe since march 1965. Haven't been to a National since 1987 as they have gotten to be an event for the moneyed bunch. I remember several years ago, I inquired of one of the National organizers about accomadations and date and was told that I obvisously had never been to a National. My comment to him was that I was going to them before he even knew about the HET. Didn't need that atitude.

I've believe I joined in late 1998 or early 1999 when I purchased a 1951 Commodore from a rabbi in Tarzana, CA., since then I purchased 1950 Wasp, 4 '53 Hornet sedan, 2 '54 Hornet sedans and 2 "52 Hornet coupe's; not proud I can honestly say I lost money on every car but still want to restore hopefully my last one, being the '52 coupe. My first Hudson was a '53 Hornet sedan that I purchased sometime in 1957 and drove, slept and almost lived in that car while driving from Brooklyn, N.Y. to Louisville (FORT KNOX) KY and approximately 41 years later I wanted to own a piece of American History again.

I moved from Tarzana, CA. to Las Vegas, NV in July 2000 and I enjoy being a member, receiving/reading White Triangle News and H.E.T. Forum.

Was a member from '00-'05 of the national organization, and up through this year in the chapter. Unfortunately, many of the national members that I had the pleasure to meet, know, and like are dead now. The National meet in '02 (Wichita, KS) was a great meet, and really got me enthused further about my then-current Hudson, a '56 Super Wasp.

Don't think I'll be rejoining the National organization anytime soon, though. Lots of things have changed. And lots more, have not.

I been a member for a few couple years now, but have never been to a National meet, cause my car is far from done. Hopefully, the one I do attend will be different. I can tell you that I think I've had a good influence on our local chapter in thinking more along the younger family lines, as we have a young boy. We had fun at the Western Regional we hosted this last year, even a hot rodder like me! Usually I'm not afraid to let somenow know if I think they are unnecessarily dishing someone's car type.

I do agree that overall the organization has got to do things to get out of a certain mentality, get modernize, and thing more of younger familys, as it will not grow without enough younger folks being interested. Maybe there are too many that just don't want to change things, just keep them as they are. Or we will become just another Packard Club! lol Or is it just the common mantra for orphan car clubs?

super651, I may be joining the local All Mopar club (with my '56 Dodge CRL 2HT) and maybe can get my Hudson squeezed in when its done (back burner right now). Maybe when others can see a modified Hudson it will spark some interest in the cars for the younger crowd.

You guys talk about joining Mopar and AMC clubs - they are very receptive to Hudsons, Terraplanes, and Nashes as "cousins by marriage" and they have a younger membership, overall.

The older membership in the local HET chapter has zero interest in attending any event that is not purely Hudson, for the most part, unless it's a parade, it seems. Tried to get them to bring their cars to the local Mopar show for years, without success. Their loss.

I first joined HET in '99. I'm also a member of other automobile make organizations and I have stated on many occasions that I enjoy the atmosphere of HET so much more because of the good people, relaxed atmosphere, and treasure troves of Hudson knowledge and experience. Yes, it's a mixture of unbudging purists and creative modifiers. I've experienced a few opinions from both. I've also never seen anything but respect from it's members to one another.

It's a shame some cannot see it for what it offers and can only present their negative spins. Or again, maybe it's a blessing...

Joined H.E.T. in 1983 at 19 years old, it would have been very difficult to find the parts or info as a lone wolf. Have enjoyed 3 National Meets and met many very good people, although I have experienced some bizzare attitudes toward me which I believe were age related (I am 43yrs. old). Having said that, I will NEVER quit the club and will continue to calmly display to others that I am indeed a valuable member. Bob Callfas

My dad found a 1953 Hornet Sedan in (fortunately) an abandoned chicken coupe back in 1969 and bought it for me - I was stationed in Hawaii at the time. He gave me the car as a Christmas present when I came home on leave.

I found a letter to the editor in a car magazine when I got back to Hawaii, written by a Tom Childs in Maryland telling about the HET Club. A note to Tom got me into the club - I sincerly regret never having the chance to meet the gentleman. From there is history.

Helped found the New England Chapter in 1970; finally got to attend my first national in 1988 - and to meet so many great people I'd corresponded with over the years at that, and other National Meets.

When the computer age hit, I used the internet to stay in touch with my "Hudson family". And believe me it is a family. I've said this before and I'll say it again - when my marriage fell apart last year, a very, very nice lady told me "You've always got your Hudson family!!" (Thanks Carmen). I've had so much fun with this club over the years - and tho I've never had a Hudson to play with I've never felt nobody wanted me around because I didn't have a Hudson. Maybe other reasons, but never because I didn't have a Hudson.

I had a ball for years with dear old Aunt Hester. And I did pretty good with that, I think. I know at one time 48% of the club didn't believe she existed; 48% swore she did, and some claimed to have met her; the other 2% didn't have a clue!! I'll lay it all to rest now - Aunt Hester was a name I used to write meet reports, etc. Hester stands for (H)udson, (ES)sex, (TER)raplane. Now, as Paul Harvey would say, you know the "rest of the story!!"

My web sites and document scanning are just a small way of my thanking the club and it's wonderful people for putting up with me for 37 years.

I joined in "95. I love both of my '54s. They are not "SHOW" quality but they are great DRIVERS, but If I had to give up the cars today, I could, but I will NEVER give up the friends I have made in the club over the last 12 years.
Bill Cox, Sherry Pickens and I were talking on the last night of the Pigeon Forge Meet, when Bill said his Dad always said " The CARS brought us together but the PEOPLE keep us together.".........This is so true!
It is often stated that the HET is like a family and I agree it really is.

    Hello Bob,

I don't get on the forum very often but did run against your posting and wanted to thank you. Well said!

I know when I joined the club, I heard it was like a family and didn't pay much attention to that. But over the 8 years I have belonged to the club, the people have become more important to me than the cars.

Again, you said it so well. I hope I get to meet you someday.

    Hello Clutch Guy -

I think you will find our club to the friendliest you belong to. There is very little bickering, as you will see when you attend meets. The forum attracts members and non members. You will find the members to be most positive. If they do have something on their mind, they know they are free to voice it and sometimes things change because of their concerns. It is a great club made up of great people.

    Again, Welcome!

I first met Bill Albright in 1990 or 91 when I was looking for knobs to finish the restoration of a 34 Hudson radio. We hit it off as friends and in 92, I think , the western regional was in Solvang. Bill invited me to bring up my hudson radios that were restored and set up. Did well at the meet and joined the club that day. I've never regretted it, Het members are some of the finest people in the world in the greatest old car club in the world!
