hi my names Dwayne im 15 and im new here this is my first post. i own a 1950 ford tudor and im doin it in mid-late 50s style. i have asked people before and they said it has a 7inch rear but everywhere i look i can only find a 7 and a half rear ive never read of a 7 inch. i was thinkin of puttin a 9 inch under her but they aint cheap. i was also thinkin bout gettin a 9inch pumpkin and center section of the rear and cuttin the same lenght on each side of the stock rear and puttin just the center of a 9in in(so the rear would be the same size as oringinal) and beefin up the axle tubes. i dont want an 8inch.

so what size rear does the 50 have originaly and does anyone know where i can find a late 50s 9 inch???

    thanks you

    Slick

49 thru 56 Ford cars used the same rear end, not sure about width year to year. station wagons used a different rear end, a Spicer 44. Yours was Ford built. I Think the ratios were, 3sp 3.78 to 1, 3sp w/ O.D. 4.11 to 1,. automatics 3.55 or 3,36 to one. 49 to 51 s hhould all be the same housing (width)

Do you need to change the diff? Have you checked it's condition? Even if you repowered with a Y-Block 239-272 or 292, that diff would still do the job as it's the same one the early T-Birds used. If you're building it '50's style, you'll only see the diff when it's on the hoist, so leave it if it's OK.:)
