    Looks very nice!

Not too thrilled about the floor of the bed, but that can probably be easily replaced if it wasn't welded-in... Wonder what that second 'hump' on forward-right side of the bed is for?

Notice what appears to be a division of the right-rear panel, just in front of the rear tire? Seems to go along with that second 'wheel well' in the bed - Possibly for a 'hidden spare tire'?
    89950511_6.jpg

Nice work on the tailgate - Not sure I like the angles of the roof where it meet the bed, nor the 'split window', but it could 'grow' on me...
    89950511_4.jpg

BTW - It is unlikely that this is a 'factory' prototype. I don't think Hudson would have made the top of the sides of the bed flat, nor would they have omitted the 'stake pockets', and I don't think they would have come up with that 'unique' area for the spare tire, nor the split rear window...

"Believed to be a factory prototype." Interesting how "believed to be" preceding a obvious lie somehow makes it all right, as in "Believed to be original mileage," "I believe I'm the second owner," "Believed to be the last one in existence," etc.

The rear door seam on the passenger's side of this baby is especially obvious and ugly.

I do believe your right about the spare tire. Also what did they make the rear window out of?

Could those be the glass that once was in the rear doors?

I don't disagree at all. Anyone looking for a custom of this nature would be advised to 'snatch it up', quickly (after making sure it has no rust issues - doubtful). I would have done a few things differently, but overall this looks to be a very nice custom, and appears to be very well done.

I've always thought the original Hudson pickups (and this one, too) should have started with a coupe or brougham body, instead of 4 door, to get the longer door. Would make the car more balanced, as well as more room inside and easier entry and exit. Hudson pickups are cramped, at best, if you've ever ridden in one.

The factory one was made form a Broham I believe. but of course there was only 1.

I am very familiar with this vehicle. Its in real nice shape. Solid with no rust and runs nicely. The rear windows are actually from the rear doors. Indeed the spare is behind the the passenger side rear door. This truck was most likely built in the early to mid fifties by a dealer or body shop. The lead work is really well done however it is showing its age. I've wanted this pick-up since I first saw it. However 19k is beyond my budget.

Besides the obvious fact this vehicle is a sedan rather than a coupe or brougham. there are a few other points that lent to the fact this vehicle was built by a dealer or garage.

the car is a 49 however the bumpers are from 50 or 51

the paint is not 49 colors

The factory would have fabricated a whole new roof line and rear window set-up most likey rather than splice a set of rear doors

Door panels have been chromed as well as some of the dash( looks sharp) but not factory.

Do you suppose the right rear door hides the spare tire? anyone ever seen the drivers side? does it have the rear door still evident

Appears that way... Look at the picture posted of the bed, you'll notice what appears to be a second wheel wheel adjacent to where the right-rear door appears to be.

The left side shows no indication of those 'seams' (see picture below). There are a few more pictures posted on the page indicated in the link (I just copied a few of them... ).
