New Guy
-
Im new to the forum, just wanted to say hello and tell a little about myself before I start asking questions. Im 22 years old, manager at a grocery store, getting into training for MMA (mixed martial arts), have a few tattoos and I have 2 trucks, 1 car and 3 motorcycles.
My trucks are a 1969 Chevy C20 which is basically in pieces in my garage, and has been for years. Im not the guy who did it, I am just the guy that was given the real nice truck, and I will be the one to rebuild it. I am really just going to keep it stock, with just a few modifications like the sound system and brakes. The reason for not doing a lot of customizing and mods to this truck is because I might be aquiring a 72' Chevy C10, this will be the truck I do all the modifications to.
The other truck is my daily driver which is a 1993 Chevy K2500, this will be the newest vehicle I ever own, I know quite a bit about this vehicle mechanically, and I plan on doing a hell of a lot of modifications to it, nothing stupid, its a 4 wheel drive 3 quarter ton truck, definatly not going to drop it to the ground or put huge chrome wheels on it, but it will be the truck that I want it to be.
My car is a drop dead gorgeous 1955 Bel Air 4 door Hardtop, God I love this car so much. There isnt a day that goes by where I dont look at her and touch her just talking to her about all the things Im going to do to her. Yeah I know that sounded a little weird, but I know alot of you know what Im talking about. With this I plan to make somewhat of a hot rod, and some what of a rat rod out of her. I dont want just a straight hot rod, and I dont want just a straight rat rod, but it will be a lot from both worlds.
Wont go into detail about the motorcycles because this is a car and truck forum, and thats what Im here to talk about. Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to introduce myself and let all of you know what I have and my plans for them. I am currently working on my Bel Air and my K2500 truck, the truck I know how to work on, I grew up mechanically with these type of trucks, and I basically studied my truck in general. The thing I am having trouble with is my Bel Air, I dont know a damn thing about this car.
I bought a manual that I thought was going to be like a manual for a person who didnt know anything about the vehicle he was working on. Like the manual I bought for my truck from Hayes, I learned a lot from that book, alot. But the manual I bought for the car is a shop manual, its nothing but specifications on basically everything on the car, and only instructions on repair on just a few things. Theres basically no troubleshooting in the whole thing, or any procedures to repair. And I have had zero luck in finding a manual that would show me everything my Hayes manual did with my truck. I was hoping someone would be able to tell me of one and where I could buy it. Like I said I know about the mechanics to my truck, but I dont know a damn thing about my car, and I hate that. And I really dont want to go in not knowing what I am doing and screw something up.
Any information and advice will be appreciated, thanks for reading the long post, there wont be any more of those from me, dont worry. Thanks again. -
Welcome aboard. There are several guys here that know tri-five Chevys. So ask any question you need. My service manual is in my head, so I can't make a copy for you. You might want to consider picking up a 'Motors" manual for that year span that covers the 55. I found several on ebay over the years.
PS If your 55 has more than 2 doors it's a sedan not a hardtop. Chevy didn't build a 4 door hardtop until 56. Not splitting hairs, just thought you would like to know.
