    Hello everyone,

I am pulling the eng, trans, rearend, front suspension, steering wheel etc. from my 49 commodore 8 coupe in the next few days. The car has approx 17,000 miles and was always garaged. I purchased from a car dealer who kept it in his showroom. Everything works and the engine runs fine. I am looking at any reasonable offer for these items. I am located in central Missouri.

I should have read the entire forum before posting in Swede's thread. I have no idea what is reasonable for a good running 254. I have one with a rod knocking, and a replacement that has had some iffy repairs to the exhaust side of the engine. A good engine to transplant would be nice if I can persuade the wife to stop eating for a month or so. Please let me know what you want for the engine, and I'll try to come and get it.

    Thanks

    Joe

    Commodore8,

I have a 49 Commodore with a 8 also. What type of trans do you have - a 3 speed? Is it with OD? I also might be interested and I am near Mountain Home, AR, so guess I am close to you. What are you looking for on the motor and the trans?

My dad and I always wanted to build a street rod, but it never happened. He has passed away now, I am 62 and I am finally going to do it. It will be different but classic. I will post pictures as I go along. I got the motor and trans, an LS2 with auto. Thanks

Do you have a round chrome knob under the dash that is shaped a bit like a saucer? Should be to the right of the steering column, under the dash. If you do, you have o/d. If not, you don't.

I think Hudsons make great street rods, however, you might well be money ahead if you traded your '49 C8 coupe for another Hudson stepdown coupe. Coupes are somewhat hard to find, 8 Cylinder coupes are even more rare and one with 17K original miles in original condition is probably one of 10 really low mileage step downs still in existance, what a find!!!!! It is your car and your deal but I bet someone would be willing to offer you another Hudson coupe and $$ for your machine. This sounds like something out of a time capsule.

i totally agree! please save her. i have a 52 hornet coupe that would make a great street rod. i have a rebuilt 308 and rebuilt hydro trans that i am ready to install with twin-H 262 head and a set of clifford headers.mallory dist, but i would sacrifice the car to have a diff form of engine installed to get a low milage 8 coupe.

The car was bought by a new car dealer from his neighbor in the 60's. He put it in his showroom. It sat there until last year when I bought it. The interior was there but the seats had started to rot. No rust anywhere, a few scratches hear and there, orriginal tires and spare, pretty dry rotted though. Needs paint and new interior. I had to give $11,000 which included shipping. Thanks for the information and help.
