71 galaxie transmission swap?
-
has anyone taken out the stock 3 speed auto and changed over to a manual 5 or 6 speed in tha floor? how hard would it be to do a swap like this if it can be done? what would the best way to go about it be, brand? parts? mods required? just looking to do something a little different as body work slowly continues might as well check into a new way to get the power from the 400 v8 to the road while i'm at it
-
You might have a problem trying to put a 5 speed in a 71 galaxie, first you have to find clutch linkage and I think 69 to 72 are the same and its been a long time since I have seen a 69 to 72 galaxie with a manual trans. With a 400 you will have to look at trucks to get a bellhousing and flywheel and a 351-m would be the same and then the trans crossmember will have to be modified as the 5 speeds have a different mount the the earlier trans. thanks for the tips, that will speed up the process with a few ideas to begin with

It also depends on the engine of choice. If you're working with a small block, there are plenty of parts for the flywheel, etc. Remember that if you're working with a 351W though, things are a bit different than the 302. But if you're working with the 351C, 400 or 460 there may be issues with the input shaft on the 5-6 speed trans.
