Many times there are things that get mixed up and we here about different items that were supposed to be. We can not always rely on our memory and I try to get the best knowledge from reputable places. Here is what I have found.

I have never heard of a 351C (other then it being a 351 cleveland) but have found that Ford did produce a C code 429 and called it a Cobra-Jet. That was in 1971. I will assume that the engine is the original one in the car and deal only with 1972. In 1972 Ford made four (4) 351 engines. One of them was a 351 Cleveland V-8 H/O. It was coded "Q". Net horsepower was 266 @ 5400 rpm. You will need to see the I.D. numbers to verify what came in the car.

As a side note, I would guess that back in the day almost anything could happen if you had the money and if it was an early built car she may have been able to get the 429 Cobra-Jet in the car but she would need to have the paperwork to verify that that is the way the car came.

In 1969 I worked for a local Mercury dealer and we got a Cyclone CJ in with the 428 and 335 horses. I think that the car had as much mileage as some used cars by the time it got to the owner. Everyone in the shop had to test drive this hot set up, and it shurely was hot.

    Hope this helps

thanks ron. as always you are a great help. just like i thought, ford never put out anything cj other than the infamous 429 cj. so the q code is just a hi-po cleavland then. how hard are those to find??

My guess would be that they are pretty difficult to find. There doesn't seem to be any figures as to how many are made, at least that I can find, and I never see any anywhere. If it came in the car, I would say that she has a great find there. It may not be all that popular to a lot of people but I believe that they are worth something. I'm sure that the people that are really into Torino's would love to see the car at shows.

Altough my Cutlass is not as popular as a 442, I get a lot of comments on it and most are asking what a W-31 is. There were only a little over 500 made and most people haven't heard of it.

I hope that her car is in god shape and drivable. Enjoy it and watch peoples expressions when you talk about it.

Best of luck with the car.
