searching...
-
hey everybody,
this is the first time i have ever used a message board like this so bare with me here... i hope im in the right place...
first of all i know nothing about cars except that there is a very specific car i am looking for... and iv been looking for it for about 5 years now to no avail. i was wondering if anybody here had any suggestions as to how i should go about tracking down one of these vehicles so i can buy it. i search ebay about once a month. from time to time ill find a variaiton on what im looking for but not exactly it. iv tried the autotrader sites n such but most of those will only let you search back to like 1980.
this might sound silly when i tell you what kind of car it is... especially when i browse through this site and see all the classic muscle cars n such that people have... but it has a lot of sentimental value. the car i seek is a 1976 Chevy Caprice Classic 4 door.... not the convertable but the hard top i guess its called.
im sure its a story all of you have heard before but id like to tell it again one more time... this car was bought brand new by my great grandfather. my grand dad inherited it when he passed. then my father got it when my grad dad passed.. until finally when i turned 16 my dad gave it to me as my first car. of corse with it being my first vehicle i drove it everywhere. my dad and i would spend the weekends working on it doing minor repairs here and there to help it suvive another week of my teenage driving. then one day the damn thing just wouldnt start and i had no way of getting to the first day of a new job. i got so mad i sold it... a few months later i saw it going down the road. apparently one of these guys that thinks they are a rap star got ahold of it and completely destroied it with gigantic rims and a horrid paint job. i wanted to cray. haha... so, not only had it survived 4 generations of my family but it was also the first car i ever owned. it would really mean a lot to both me and my father if i could find another one. the condition isnt too important. if i have to buy one from a junk yard and restore it, then so be it. i just would love to have another one.
if anybody has any suggested on how to search for something like that... who i can contact, any good websites, ect...i would really apreciate a reply or an email. thanks in advance.

There are magazines that specialize in the buying and selling of older cars. I don't think you'll have too much problem in finding what you seek, and you may actually be able to find a pretty good example, for not that much money. I'd start out by looking at Hemmings Motor News, which has a print edition and is also on line ( www. Hemmings.com , I think). Other good periodicals with lots of car ads are Old Cars Weekly and Cars & Parts, which put out print editions and may be available at larger booksellers' magazine sections. Of course you can also join one of the antique Chevrolet clubs and get their newsletters, which will probably have lots of cars posted for sale.

i would try craigslist. out here in washington i'm always seeing caprice's comming up on craigslist. i search this sight religously. i find all sorts of cheap parts that some one bought or had that they never used. it also has some pretty neat stuff for sale on there too. just google craigslist and on the right hand side of the main page just choose the state that you are in and wal-ah you're at craigslist for your area!
