I have a real 118vin 67 SS NOVA numbers matching with the protecto plate to prove it.It has a 283/190hp motor.can i modify the engine (cam,manifold,4bbl,headers) and still consider it a numbers matching car and will it loose value if i do that.and if i did i would not bore the block so that i can put the original parts back on.

i don't think that doing those things to your motor will drop the value too much. sometimes thats what the buyer is looking for. as far as boring the block out depending on the mileage and condition of the motor you need to have it bored just a little bit. boring your block isn't going to phase anything but the pistons and the rings because you will have to get pistons and rings to fit the new bore. an overhauled motor can actually be a really high point of an older car such as your original ss. and the fact that your car has matching numbers as far as vin denoting what motor came in that car and the casting numbers on the block denoting the car that it was available in is still a good price raiser. its when you put 327's and 350's in there that the price drops down. so having the original 283 is really a high selling point with matching numbers.
