I replaced the gas line from the fuel pump to the carburetor on my supercharged 54 Manhattan with a homemade job. For reasons I can't explain, I'm only getting around 5 to 6 mpg. I can't find a leak outside the airbox and I gave the car a tune-up. It runs real smooth and accelerates properly, especially when the supercharger engages, but after 50 miles, I'm down from a full to a 1/2 tank of gas. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

I had a similar gas guzzling problem on my '55 Packard Clipper and it turned out to be the carburetor....had it rebuilt and solved the problem. I forget exactly what the problem was, but it was internal....not the needle and seat, but something else....the float perhaps.

Are you saying the gas mileage was ok before the fuel line replacement?

No. I don't know the gas mileage was before since the gas line was corroded. Actually, the gas mileage isn't as bad as I thought. It's just that needle falls fast, but when I go to fill it up it only takes about 6 gallons. I'm getting around 12 to 15 mpg. I think that's about normal.
