1954 Hollywood Hornet
-
Could someone please tell me how many of these cars still exist or a round about guess. 1954 Hollywood Hornet
Would someone also know about what the price goes for them? I have an orginal 1954 red with red and white interior with every bell and whistle on it the spare has never touched the ground even with the orginal wheels and tires still on the car. the car has maybe 30,000 miles on the car. I would like more information if anyone has it about these cars. This car is in OUTSTANDING SHAPE nothing has ever been done too it still show room floor look to it. -
Hudson only made a limited amount of Hollywoods. The Hornet Hollywood was the model right underneath the Conv't. Certianly , there are not that many around. I would guess maybe 10 - 15 left. Your's sounds like it's in nice original condition. That would make even more valuable. I would guess that if your's only has 30,000 miles on it and it's Gorgeous than it's the lowest mile car out there...... Congrats.....
-
The reason so little miles on it is my father in law bought the car from a sectary that worked at Hudson and she didnt drive it long and sold it to my father in law. Well he was big into racing and didnt want it outside and put it in the race car shop and never drove it again. Well since then I have put my elbow through the lens of the tail light and for the last 15yrs I have been trying to find one not looking really hard. But now that all of our kids are into racing and the shop is busting out in seams we need to get that car and the 1946 Hudson Pickup again with very low miles OUT of the shop so we can get them out of the way. So neither vehicle has but about 30,000 or even less. The pickup still has the orgianl wood in the bed but both are just a collector of dust right now.
-
Post some pictures so we can help you with the valuation of these vehicles.www.hudsonmotorcar.org
-
I would love to post pictures but right now they are like burried in at least 10" of dust from the race car shop. As soon as I locate all the parts for them and they are out of the shop I will be happy to post the pictures of them and most of all I will be happy to get them things out of my way. Finding a power brake assembly is now my hold up for the car its a good thing I am a FORD person I can get parts for my car and truck this car is a NIGHT MARE. I didnt think it was going to be so hard to get parts for it. WOW now I know why I like the modern versions of vehicles you can just run down the road and pick up what you need. I am hoping and praying that if and when I find the power brake ass. that I can get the parts all in and the cars out and then I will put up the pictures of the vehicles. Its hard to put miles on something that you cant get your in laws to look for or even buy the parts for them. Trust me if I had my way with them they would already be scrap cause the parts are like finding a needle in a hay stack. Its crazy why would you want to have something collecting dust while you are paying for tag and insurance on them either put them together or scrap them and since racing is in the blood the best thing is a pile of metal well and dust.
-
Simple solution just sell them to a Hudson lover on this board. They can be fixed up by the buyer who appreciates Hudsons.www.hudsonmotorcar.org
-
I Would Be Interested In Looking At Your Cars. Are They Still In The Detroit Area? I Am Down River.
-
Fordracing45, If you really want to fix them up, you've come to the right place. There are guys on this Forum that you could go to for a screen door for a submarine, and all they need to know if you want it right-handed or left- handed? I noticed you just joined the Forum, and I think your input about the frustration in finding parts, speaks volumes. Here's what you do.....make a list of what parts you need, post them here, and I bet within 2 days you'll have your parts. If you don't care about fixing them up, I'm glad you found this Forum. Take the time to post some pictures, and you'll have no problem selling them. Go under NADA.com , under Classic cars, and you can get a "ROUGH" idea of what they're worth.
Wes -
I'm confused... first you say that it's in "OUTSTANDING SHAPE" and "it still show room floor look to it.", then you complain that your in-laws should "either put them together or scrap them"
Parts are easily available for Hudsons...first thing you need to do is go to www.k-gap.com and order a tail light lens to replace the one you broke 15 years ago. -
fordracing45,
Did you know there is a connection between the Ford Motor Sports Division and a '54 Hudson Hornet? The following came from www.cliffordperformance.net
"In 1964, while working as a mechanical engineer for North American Aerospace Division assigned to the Apollo Project, Ford Motor Sports Division hired Jack (Clifford) to beat the Chevaire race team. They were using a Chevy 327 V-8 wagon. The intention was to beat out the stock car manufacturers award at the NHRA world cup meet in Columbus, Ohio. Ford flew Jack and towed his 1954 "Hornet" powered 6 cylinder car to the meet. Ford knew they could not beat the Chevy race team without Jack's help since he held the class record too. His 6 cylinder flat-head blew the doors off the 327 V-8 Chevy by two full car lengths which allowed Ford to be #1 in the manufacturer's class. This really showed the possibilities of what a 6 cylinder flat-head could do..." -

the power brake unit is about the easiest thing to find parts for, gm and most manufactures (even some fords) used the same unit. its a bendix tredle-vac. you can have it rebuilt on exchange or do it yourself with a 50 dollar kit and a couple hours. the other brake parts are a trip to napa.Finding a power brake assembly is now my hold up for the car its a good thing I am a FORD person I can get parts for my car and truck this car is a NIGHT MARE. pretty much what else you need is out there, you just need to know where to look. -
Well I traded several emails with this nut. All I wanted to find out was "Where are you". After three emails she finally said Kansas City. I started out very friendly,... I thought , having some racing background and an interest in Hudsons...put us on some common ground. Well, this woman does not own the cars. Can't sell them and runs on and on about can't find parts, the cars are in the way, they are junk, they are mint.. A real nutso. She just needs a pen pal to dump here "stuff" on. I finally "told her off and put her on my blocked sender list. The world is full of nuts and we just found one. if someone is in KC.. Try finding someone running a Ford Stock car #45. Bet it's a junker.. Then try to see the cars.. good luck.
Davew:eek: -
That's too bad. I hope that those Hudsons will eventually make it into the hands of someone who will appreciate and care for them.

I was thinking of waving the BS flag on this one, but you guys all seemed caught up on this. Probably some lonely, ugly chick....

And working at Kragen and living in Cleveland are his punishment. -

geez, I would have picked something better than a hollywood.
-
SCRAP?! HERESEY!!!! Parts are not so hard to find as you think, you just need to know where to find the people that have the parts... most all of them are in the Hudson Essex Terraplane Club.

Could this be the smae person listed as fordracing45 on ebay: note--also from Kansas.
Check these out--good feedback-- until about 3 years ago:

WOW...what bad track record! Good luck finding that 54...elsewhere.

Yer just jealous 'cause you don't have one!!! Remember, we don't need no stinkin' "B" pillar to keep our roof up! LOL

Okay, i'm jealous...
I wish I had a hollywood, then I would be that much closer to a convertible... -
It is indeed the "fordracing" person. Been corresponding for a few days. The attitude is pretty discouraging!
-
Mmmm. Isn't it interesting how this "fordracing" person constantly changes her story, and how she has not responded to this thread to substantiate her story. I saw the eBay links; pretty sad. Looks like this person is just looking for someone else to scam. I'm sorry it had to happen to us.

Hey, no hate allowed here. LOL
Thanks to that forum member for doing some background on this person. Who knows, maybe one of our own could have been scammed. -
Oh, c'mon, Dave; don't you know that the Blue Ford Oval is the true symbol of the Antichrist, not 666 or the inverted-pentagram-in-a-circle?
I can personally attest to this; I had a '73 Gran Torino 4-door with the 302. Wasn't a single thing that didn't break or fail on it. Biggest POS ever made, BAR NONE.
But we digress....

Martin,
Just because you've had a bad experience, stereotyping isn't fair. Maybe it wasn't the car. Perhaps someone dropped a pierogi into the carb.
I've owned many Fords over the years. I still have a 97 Explorer Sport that I purchased new. It has 125k miles on it and has, by far, been the best vehicle I've ever owned. Basically, cars are a crapshoot. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Maybe we start another pi$$ing match and do a poll on this topic. -
Dave53-7C wrote:...Perhaps someone dropped a pierogi into the carb.

WhooooOOOOOOoooo!! You'd better smile when you say that!! HAW!!
Might be a fun discussion: "Worst Car I've Ever Owned." I think it would work better as a discussion more than a poll, and in the General Topic Section. I'd start it, but I gotta get up for work in 5 hours and the Wild Cherry Pepsi's wearing off.
Till tomorrow,
Tom"Problems are merely opportunities in workclothes." -Henry J. Kaiser -
Tom,
Ya, as if we don't have enough moaning going on here.
I can see a "Worse Car I Ever Owned" thread or poll. No, come to think of it, a discussion is better for those who enjoy belaboring each other with nasty, rambling dissertations. As a result, I predict the that rate of heart attacks and strokes for men over what, 70 or better, would increase dramatically. Either that or there would be an increase in the sale of Depends.

Martin200 wrote:Oh, c'mon, Dave; don't you know that the Blue Ford Oval is the true symbol of the Antichrist, not 666 or the inverted-pentagram-in-a-circle?
And I thought I was the Antichrist!
(or at least that's what my father called me!) -
Yes, Dave, I know what you mean. I just read Hudsonkid's sign-off thread and I'm not sure what to make of it. I understand and respect freedom of speech, yet I understand the need to not turn this forum into a b!tc#ing board. It's sometimes hard to balance "rights" and "responsibilities".
As I've said in other threads, the reason I come here is to hang out with others who speak my language, that of old orphan cars. I feel welcome here; I have gotten plenty of help and expertise and I really don't want to lose that or the friends I have made on this forum."Problems are merely opportunities in workclothes." -Henry J. Tom,
I too have read hudsonkid's sign-off. I can only hope that those who know him, or can understand that he meant no harm, will PM him. He's really down about this whole thing and I think that some people here owe an apology for the mean and saracastic tone they have taken with him and others. There are 100's of members on the forums, but was the decision to remove his poll done with fairness or at the request of a majority of members? Obviously not. That aside, I enjoy all of the topics discussed there. Whether I like them, hate them or benefit from them, it doesn't matter. We all learn from listening to what others have to say. It's too bad that some people don't, or won't, understand that life can't always be serious and that, sometimes, you have to let your hair down. You seem to be a great guy. Thanks for being respectful and keeping a cool head. We need more people like you.

Dont really know what has happened the past day or two but always remember what I learned in drivers edu. class.
Driving is a privledge and not a right...this also applys in most most public issues -

Thanks so much, Dave. Sometimes I wonder if I let my hair down a little too much. I have been guilty of my share of political rants on these forums, for better or worse! (I keep a cool head??):rolleyes: I guess I wouldn't open up like that if I wasn't absolutely comfortable with whom I was talking. But the fact of the matter is, I do respect the opinions and ideas of the others on this forum. They help me to better formulate my own. Thanks again, Dave, and all the rest of you, for welcoming me to this forum and helping to make me feel at home. You are truly a great bunch.

BTW, I received my first copy (Jan-Feb '07) of WTN. What a great magazine!! Got the Kaiser-Frazer Quarterly beat for content and quality, I'm sorry to say; but then the K-F Club's numbers aren't up there, either. Looks like TONS of neat stuff in the club store, too. Another place where I can blow my paycheck! COOL!!!

I myself disliked the poles, but some do, never bothered me one way or the other. If I do not like something I do not participate, THAT SIMPLE. I believe in competition, and in the clutch business it is also welcomed by me, it keeps everything in check. I was a forklift mech for 14 years PPG kept 2 of every vendor in house just for that reason. I sell Master Cylinders for Hudsons and have for years during the Jack Miller days after he was gone I was ask to raise my prices because a club member was selling resleaved ones for much more and they wanted to know why mine was half the price of his rebuilt ones. I get them cheap and pass on the savings was my reply. They quit running my ad in the WTN! I started selling them on Ebay and have trippled my business with them and sell them even cheaper now. I joined the HET recently because of a Personal invite and I just recieved my first one, very nice! I believe when one person can remove a thread is not a good way to do business and there is a word for that kind of governing. I read all post and it is good for entertainment as well as Educating, If you come for the fun and learn something it was worth your while. Lifes short. Hudson kid will be missed I am sure, but I think like me he will be back after time.

They stopped your ad becuase someone else didn't like the competition? Maybe I don't have the whole story, but that doesn't sound cool at all! Can't yell free-market and then cry that someone else is selling cheaper than you are. Sounds like a bad deal badhudson, but glad your doing some good biz on eBay.

Uh, I thought this thread was about a mysterious 1954 Hornet Hollywood.
