Overdrive Issue
-
I just got my 46 Super 8 Coupe engine back in and running. It seems the overdrive has the reverse locked out....I am not sure what I need to do to unlock it. Tried about evrything I could think of...
Help!

Try removing solenoid and putting it back in.

Take the solenoid out, then see if you can get it in reverse. If so, the solenoid was installed incorrectly. Look at the end knob on the shaft and position the "flats" vertically as you put the solenoid in place) The mount plate should be rotated about 30 from its final mounted position when you do this. After the unit's in place, rotate it to align the mount holes. Now pull out on the solenoid, and it shouldn't come out. If that's the case, go ahead and "bolt 'er up."

Sounds like the lockout shifting collar is not moving to lock out, possibly gummed up. Is the od control knob pulled out?
-
I have that problem on my '41 Packard. I have to pull the OD knob out to be able to get the car in reverse. Probably gummed up as JT suggests, but since it does work with the knob pulled out in my case, that's what I do.
