69 chev nova 6cyl head swap
-
Does any one know if you can put a 230 cid head on a 250 cid block they look the same the 230 head is shorter then the 250 head and I dont want a big eng. in my nova. It came from the factory with a 230 cid 3 speed on the collum and no pwr sterring or brakes. it has drum brakes witch are useful in scaring the hell out of peds and bikes. whe had it sence it was new but I was too cheap to buy antifreze.so my block is no longer repairable.
thanks

Brian, the 230/250 heads are not interchangeable, according to my sources.
Since the I-6's were used in almost every car and pickup GM made from 1950 to the late 1970's, finding a replacement shouldn't be very difficult, or very expensive.
I'd check on eBay and Hemmings under "parts".
Also, it might be cheaper to just buy an old beat to hell car with a usable engine, and swap it out, then sell what's left for junk. I've done that several times.
Good luck.
