More unique than we know
-
I am fishing for some real info on a vehicle we have listed on ClassicCar.Com. My friend has a 1968 Cutlass 4 door station wagon-Flat top. Not a Vista Cruiser! The item number and pictures are under 147772. The previous owner said that this car was one of seven made for the higher ups at the Michigan plant and was not in commerical production. I have done a lot of research online and can find nothing on it.
Do you know of this model? -
You may want to go to the A.A.C.A. message board and ask this in the OCA forum. There's a guy with the name RocketRaider there that has a lot of this type of information.

I don't think that the flat-top Cutlas wagons were all that rare. Oldsmobile offered it as a production item in 1968, and until at least 1972. (See photos)
Check the build plate/sticker for the body code "33635". That code appears to cover all of the 4-door wagons for that year, and production was 9,291. The VistaCruiser roof was a fairly expensive option for its day, so it's unlikely that all but 7 was of that style.
There was a 2-door wagon, with an inline 6, body code "33535", and only 354 of them were produced. Apparently they were meant for commercial use, since they had no rear seats at all. 1968 was the only year this 2-door wagon was made.(I'd sure like to see one of those!)

1968 Oldsmobile mid-size line-up

While this pace car is a 1972 model, I think it indicates that the flat-top wasn't very rare at all.
However, I admit that I am unable to break them down any further than this, but I hope it helps you.
