Due to the ever changing economy, I may have to move to Central Tennessee to take a job sooner than anticipated.

Will my beloved '50 Pacemaker fit on a U-haul trailer SAFELY? I would pull the trailer with a U-haul truck.

Trailer, yes. Tow dolly, no! You have to be careful opening the doors on the trailer, so as not to hit the fenders of the trailer.

U-haul has to sizes of transporter trailers, made sure that you rent the larger one or your Hudson won't fit on the shorter one. good luck on your move. Ron.

When I moved from Florida to Tennessee I rented a 24 foot U-Haul and put my '51 Pacemaker inside it, packed our stuff around it and took off. To do what I did you need to make sure that you have some type of loading dock to get the car in and out. There are some here in Middle Tennessee, mostly tractor dealers.

The old Saturn plant is just north of Columbia in Spring Hill and I think that you might be able to find a dock and ramp to off-load nearby. I'm just up the road from Columbia between Franklin and Brentwood. PM me if I can be of any help with your relocation.

I moved to East TN with a Penske truck and Penske trailer. My 50 pacemaker fit OK but the tail end was hanging off. Traveled fine. FYI - if you tell them you are hauling a Hudson they will likely refuse you a trailer since the Hudson doesn't show up on their approved list. This policy is the same for most of the rental outfits. I officially hauled a VW jetta :)

I had to do the same thing when I hauled 2 studes I have. The 1956 hawk hung off the back but it towed fine. I told them I was towing a sports car. I liked the aluminum trailer U Haul has.

Why not drive your car to your new home town? If you are moving with your spouse, one can drive the U-haul and other the Pacemaker.

Old Farmer: The Pacemaker is not ready for a 700 mile trip. And if I leave, I have to leave her here until her retirement date from the Army gets here. And she may end up in another city working at a VA Hospital once she retires. Very difficult times we face as a family in the next 6 months.

Rented a uhaul truck and trailer when I moved from Forida to Michigan. I had a 49 Commodore at the time and worked very well.

I am in total sympathy as I think I'm about to lose my job also and not sure what the outcome will be. Have to find something soon or will have to sell the house and the Hudsons. After 21 years, my life just ran into the recession and the Do-Nothing but Grandstand Congress. That's right, I guess they did their oversight on the $1B wasted on the AF computer system. Next.

Rented a U-Haul trailer for the '56, which is wider than the step down.U-Haul has the demensions of what cars fit each trailer.Yes, they even have Hudsons on their computer. They were glad to have my Hudson and my buisness.The trailer even has pull out ramps. Just drive your Hudson to the U-Haul place, drive it up onto the trailer and they will show you how to secure it very easy. When I got the Hudson home, just disconnected it from the trailer, pulled out the ramps, and drove it off. Easy! Done this with several Hudsons with U-Haul, with no problems and they welcome old classic cars. Can set this all up from your computer. Just go on their website.
