David is about 255Km from Pierre. A nice drive through Mulhose/ Basel and around Zurich. A stop in Mulhouse for a visit to Cité de l'Automobile, a museum housing the famous Schlumpf Brothers collection, with the most Bugattis under one roof, would be in order. My wonderful cousin Harry Ufheil from Wasenweiler, Baden-Württemberg drove me there last October. It was awesome seeing that collection and then going to my first Hershey swap meet within a week or so.

Here's what I was thinking of doing:
Disassemble the flywheel and fix the clutch mechanism as it should be, and adjust the pressure plate fingers by turning the three screws with lock nuts which hold the mechanism. Ask him if I'm OK.'' -
Doug says he can supply a rebuilt overdrive and new clutch assembly. Pierre needs to make a decision soon, as David Bergamin's motor will be finished in a few weeks and will be ready to ship. Otherwise it will probably cost more to ship the overdrive separately.

Nope! He had already ordered and paid the wiring harness and it was on it's way and he had to keep some money for the interior work etc. Michel
I will have to visit him some day cause I want to see the Schlumpf's brothers museum that I had heard of for the first time in the seventies in an edition of Old car magazine. Incredible story! -

I'm saying to Pierre that I understand his first message saying that it works but would like him to write his second message in french cause I can't understand this one.. Michel -
He is apparently referring to the uneven wear on his clutch release fingers, one heavily worn, one with moderate wear, and the third doesn't seem to have been touching the throwout bearing face hardly at all. The finger tips need to be reground and then adjusted for equal heights at the three adjusting studs with lock-nuts.

Pierre should check has clutch fork shaft and bushings for excessive play caused by wear as well.

Je disais qu'il me reste le probleme du plateau d'embrayage, Ken dit que les doigts sont uses, j'ai aussi des traces de brulure sur le plateau , je pense que je vais voir pour faire un echange standart de ces pieces , chez ron , le specialiste
J'ai ecrit a Doug et aussi a Ron mais je n'ai pas encore de reponse -
Pierre was asking 'where' the problem is on his second message.
He said he still has an issue with the pressure plate, according to Ken the fingers are worn out, he has also some burn traces. The intends to go for remplacement parts with Ron.
He send a mesage to Doug and Ron but did not get a reply yet.
Going back to the very first message, the clutch pedal does not come back when pressed once and it seems there is not enough pressure on the plate. So it sounds like the throw-out bearing get stucked because of uneven finger heigth.
It there a way to resurface the flywheel, pressure plate and the fingers ?

There is a huge return spring for the clutch return linckage that frequently breaks and is not noticed due to its location. It mounts on the outside (left on left hand drive ) of the frame rail and is about 18 inchs long or so. It may be gone if hes having return problems,

Hello Pierre. As I said, if you follow the procedures in the Hudson shop manual,you will somewhat be able to set it up. The only problem is the book describes getting new replacement parts for worn items. I have special tools and equipment that we recondition these with,and they won't apply to your set-up. I am trying to help,but you probably need to purchase a reconditioned unit. Also remember,once you have started the transmission into the clutch disc,DO NOT let it hang. This will bend the center in the clutch disc every time and subsequently cause damage!

Doug , that's why I take two long bolts, cut the hex heads off , chamfer and then use them as pilots to get the bellhousing safely to the block/ rear support plate without stressing the clutch disc hub. I use the two top bolt holes. slide the unit in slowly, line up the input shaft splines to clutch disc, slide all the way to block , start the rest of the bolts in, tighten somewhat, take the pilot studs out, put the regular bolts in, then tighten all the bolts down evenly.

Tallent R : il y a un ressort de rappel d'environ 45cm a coté de la boite de vitesse le long du chassis, il casse souvent mais en raison de son emplacement on s'en rend pas compte
Clutch Guy: Pierre, comme je l'ai dit, si tu suis les procédures du manuel d'atelier Hudson, tu saura le remettre en place. Le seul problème est que selon le manuel il faut remplacer les pièces usées par des neuves. Je dispose de matériel spécial que nous utilisons pour reconditionner ces pièces et ils (les procédures) ne s'applique pas à ton cas.
J'essaie d'aider mais tu vas probablement devoir acheter un ensemble reconditionné. Souviens toi aussi : une fois que la boite est engagée, ne la laisse pas pendre. Ceci pliera systématiquement le centre du disque et causera des dégâts !
Ken U-Tx Doug, c'est la raison pour laquelle j'utilise 2 vis longues, coupe la tête hexagonale, les chanfreine pour les utiliser en tant que guide afin d'approcher la cloche d'embrayage contre la plaque arrière du moteur sans contraindre le moyeu du disque d'embrayage. J’aligne les rainures de l'arbre primaire avec celles du disque, glisse jusqu'au bloc moteur, je met les autres vis que je serre un petit peu, je retir les guides, remet les boulons normaux et ensuite je serre les vis progressivementLocation : France
