First trip in the snow in '11. The heater core gave up the ghost that day too, if you couldn't tell. Luckily it was just a run through the neighborhood.

First snow of the season so I shot this photo. It has been a Christmas card and Ms. January on a local business calendar. It is all fun. Also, it was -1 below today and I drove it to breakfast.

RL, I believe that was a nice balmy 34 or so. My new heater core (brand new aluminum, mid 70's Ford product) keeps me nice and warm now, it'll downright chase you out. :)

Here's a link to The Patricia McClure Collection. It's a small collection of photos taken by and of her husband who was a trucker in Alaska during the post war years. While perusing the site for pics of these rugged haulers coping with the then nearly non-existent roads I came across four photos of a jack-knifed truck blocking the path of a Hudson stepdown. It was amusing enough to see a Hudson tackling these snow covered mountain roads, but I about burst my gut when I realized it was a convertible. I hope you'll find it worth a look.

James, thanks for the posting. Three of the four jack knifed pictures show that Hudson. A brave sole to be out and about in the wilds of Alaska in a convertible of any make! Goes to show that Hudsons were "drivers".

That jack-knifed truck reminds me of the Dick Curless song "Tombstone Every Mile" about the dangers of driving a rig on the Hainesville Road down in Maine - if they buried every trucker lost in them woods, there's be a tombstone every mile". True enough.

RL Chilton, That's my 1951 Commodore 8 coupe, I was just a kid when I went with my Dad when he bought it. It's been in the family a long time. I restored it in 2006 and it's now my driver.The '36' truck is my trailer Queen, not near as nice to drive long distance.
I plowed out the snow in front of the shop enough to get my new project out, a 1930 Hudson,never before seen! What do you think Geoff?

I don't know what Geoff thinks, but I think it's gorgeous, too! How does the '51 do on the highways? Does it have OD?

RL, It's a first year Hydra-matic, I normally run it at 65 MPH on the highway. That 8 cylinder runs so quite and smooth, that people who ride with me swear it has an electric motor in it.

Nothing much smoother than a straight 8! And with the Hydra in front, there's not much left that has a better combination Hudson-wise. Nice car, Scott.

I was going to take one of the hudsons out since it has been snowing a bit here lately. Just about a foot of snow to be exact. I took the snow blower and cleared the path to the shop. That took about two hours. I went back in the house to take a break. OK, maybe I'll take the car out tomorrow--the snow will still be there.

This evening, here in Memphis, it is 7:15pm and 70º ouside. It has been raining off and on most all day. Rain beats sown 10 ways to Sunday - you don't have to shovel 6 inches of rain out of the driveway. You might have to bail out the basement, if you have one, but no shoveling the driveway.
Winter should be over in about another, oh, 4 or 5 weeks.

Hey Alex, since you moved South, they've got this new fangled thing called a snow blower. Works great. I don't shovel any more. If the blower doesn't get it, it doesn't get got.

Uncle J, I had one of them machines for years. And you are correct - it does beat shoveling. My daughter, who lives here in Memphis, and her new husband came to Maine in 1995 on their honeymoon. We were out in the garage and her husband spotted the snow blower - he had no idea what it was!!!! LOL

PS I left mine in Maine!!
