"Classic 2 Current Fabrication" new Hudson sheetmetal -- ?

    Do they really fit what they say they do? If so, it would seem like a great boon to those restoring rusty Hudson bodies!

    Hi Jon,

    I purchased the full trunk pan that they offer for the step downs. I was less than impressed. The formed beads on the original was "imitated" by a sheet metal finger break that are much less deep (from what I can tell). I haven't welded it in yet, but it'll probably work out okay but will be obvious that it's not original. At least the sheet gauge is nice and thick....feels pretty solid.

    You'll get what I would refer to as somewhat generic, mass produced sheetmetal. Unless you're lucky, it won't be a perfect fit, as it is meant to fit multiple years - but should get you 'in the ballpark'. If you are not happy with what they provide, I would suggest finding a custom metal fabricator (such as our 'bent metal' here on this forum).

    I am more than a bit disapponted that they have not created a 'transmission hump' floorpan for the 30s-40s Hudsons. My guess is that with all the stamps and bends, the piece is too complex for them to easily make...

    Baloney! For short runs of these humps like we need, a 'continental' aluminum punch and die could be cast easily and put in a healthy press to make some. It wouldn't last for a thousand parts but should make a hundred OK.

    I actually made one for the 40 coupe by welding up a couple of pieces of sheet metal, using cardboard for a pattern.

    Ken Ufheil made some for awhile. Maybe he'll chime in with why he quit.

    The Kirksite alloy sells for about $6-7 for a 2-1/2 pound bar. The die can also be cast from a type of concrete for short runs, probably cheaper than Kirksite. Hmmmmm, let me look into the concrete die idea...... are these 37-47 Hudson -Terraplane tranny covers really as scarce as they seem to be? Like Paul , I wouldn't want to invest time and money into fabbing these unless there truly is a need.
