Good Books about Early Cars?

    Hi,
I wonder if anyone her knows of a good reference book on early cars? I collect real photo postcards, and many times they have early cars in them. Does anyone know of a book that will tell me what make of car I have pictured in my postcards - perhaps a reference book with good photos in it? Sometimes you see just the front or back of a car in these postcards. Most of the postcards I have date from 1900 to 1940.
    Thanks in advance.

The Standard Catalog of American Cars 1805-1942 published by Krause is a great source. The same people that put out Old Car Weekly.

Any of the "Car Spotter's Guides" are good reference material, as well. SCAC is probably the best bet, as previously posted.

The "Standard Catalog ...." is my bible for these cars, along with its companion publication covering 1946-1975.

Thank you all so much for your help. I think I'll do some amazon searches and look at the different ratings of these books, but it looks like The Standard Catalog of American Cars is the favorite here.

If you want a "thinner" Standard Catalog Krause Publications also puts out a "Standard Catalog of INDEPENDENTS - The Struggle to Survive Among Giants".
As the title indicates it covers only cars like Auburn, Checker, Hudson cars, Rambler, Jeffery and other independent makes, thus it is an easier book to use when researching Hudson cars.
All the Hudson (including Essex and Terraplane) info in the larger Standard Catalog is in the Independent book from 1909 thru 1957
