Re’: Moving day cry for help and announcement of DEEP DISCOUNTS!!
HELLO HUDNUTS:
The collection of parts and remaining card of the late Jim Harmon did NOT sell as a unit and must be removed from the premises by Dec 31st 2012.
Beginning at 8 AM Friday December 28, and 29th and 30th 2012 &Monday the 31st if necessary we will assemble at Jims home 42785 NW Woolen Rd in Banks Oregon (25 miles from Portland off of Hwy 26)to move all remaining inventory about 3 miles to a storage barn.
Please bring any kind of hauling vehicle, gloves, raingear (the forecast is for dry weather but who knows) and your check book. These is a move it or sell it day ---- there will be no time or staff to handle sale at the storage barn. Buy as it is brought to daylight for the first time in 20+ years, No reasonable offer refused !! Bulk sales encouraged!!!
Liquids and light lunch will be provided.
This sale is being conducted by friends, fellow Hudson Club Members and family of Jim Harmon for Mrs. Christine Harmon.

2000 miles away, and $700+ travel cost on such short notice......Need new WWW tires for my Hornet, so guess what takes priority for me?

Couple thousand from Memphis with the snow snarled mid-west to get thru. End of the month so no money anyway, Couldn't make it in time anyway. So it goes. All I'd be interested in would be literature, if there was any, but I don't think so.

It would have been nice to actually have more than 24 hrs notice for something this important! The barn isn't that far from the property, if it is the same one that he showed us in 2001 & it was huge. Perhaps all isn't lost.

I hope Jim's lifetime work is saved. I still remember the first time I met him (Cleveland Nat'l - 1987). He and Mr. Riggs brought the '54 convertible they were auctioning in a few years from Portland. Please let us know what happens...

I assume that's only a small portion.There is not $175.000 worth in those few photos. It will be interesting to hear the results.Hope most of it was saved for future restorers.

If I had more notice, I would have been there..sad, definitely good parts and project cars from the looks of the pictures.

First of all, excuse me for being blunt - just thinking about this puts me in a slow burn...
For something that started out in what appeared a very organized fashion (coordination, lawyers, inventories, CDs, etc.), this whole thing 'went south', and has been a 'paper sack' of PPP of late, both on the part of the estate & lawyers, etc..
From what is seen/shown, only two days notice to request help (?) - and on top of that, it comes during middle the holidays?
The 'move' should have come a minimum of two months ago, and continued-on (as time, equipment and personnel were available), until everything was moved - or sold.
This last-minute 'stuff' is for the birds... -
That's what happens when lawyer's get involved, I'm sure he got his money,

I read the appraisal as 175,000.It is mentioned in the comments under the heading Harmon Estate at the top the forum.$75.000 seems more realistic.

I wish I could be there but I do not have anything vehicle big enough to help move the parts and add the fact my program is going to be starting up very soon after the winter holidays.
May I ask... How many and what type of project cars were located there?
Also with the picture of the engine blocks, are all of those 52-54 flathead 6's and 8's or are they any earlier ones?Christopher

The lawyer handling the estate offered a CD with the complete inventory for $25. Seeing I had no chance of getting there, nor have $75K to buy the whole thing and then have to pay perhaps another $8-10K to move it here and about $1K a month to store it, I didn't see the point of sending $25 for the CD. -
For those who are interested in the facts, local and distant friends of the Harmon family have rallied at their former home in Banks the past few days. Through their efforts several large loads of Hudson parts have been moved from the property to a secure storage facility nearby. The current goal is to fully vacate two key buildings by midnight 31 December. All of these folks are there to assist because they are dedicated to helping a friend's family. Jim's family continues to negotiate additional time to vacate the remaining buildings and are optimistic the new owner will be amenable to allowing additional time to finish the task. There is no guarantee of this happening. The point of posting this is all the folks who have been involved in trying to preserve the collection of Hudson parts and cars are all working to move them now. Their focus is to complete that task and if you can help by appearing in Banks tomorrow with a willing set of hands and possibly a vehicle capable to moving parts you will be put to work.Oldfarmer1947@gmail.com

I live ~3hrs from the Harmon Estate and would certainly be willing to travel down there and help for a day or two. I got the "help needed" notice too late to be able to help the first time around, but if Oldfarmer is right that they are negotiating additional time to move stuff, then maybe there's still opportunities for me to help. I agree that there was probably a better way to handle this, but at least they're trying to save the parts instead of sending them to the recycler. I've spoken to Dick Riggs in the past and will try to contact him and get the latest.

I just got off the phone with Dick. Great guy to talk with and has been a close friend of Jim's for many years. He said they've been hauling parts every day for the past week and have completely filled the barn they are storing parts at. They only have a few odds and ends left to move, so no more help needed. It sounds like they are still trying to find a buyer for the whole lot as the surviving family doesn't have the time or interest to sell parts and pieces seperately. That could possibly change if they never find a buyer. Dick said they might bring some parts to the Portland Swap Meet in April if they can.

It would make more sense to hold an auction at the barn maybe just before or after the National, as then it is a side trip detour of about 700 to 1350 miles for those already heading to the west coast from the east. It would add about 3-4 days to their itinerary for the National. They could hold an auction on Sat July 20th. If there is still a lot of unsold inventory, some of it can be taken to San Mateo, and another auction at the barn could be held on Monday afternoon July 29 for those that are able to stop by on their return home. Whatever they decide to do, the best chance for it to succeed it a little planning and a lot of advance notice! The first time around was basically no planning, panic mode, only 24 hours advance notice in the week between Christmas and New Years........There isn't a Hudson Parts Fairy that is gonna fly in, leave $75K and haul off all those parts in one fell swoop.

Thanks Ken...that is a pretty awesome idea. That would be cool to roll into San Mateo with a Semi truck full of goodies. Or...maybe we have the 2014 National in Banks Oregon!!! Kind of a tribute thing to Jim. I'm sure he'd be smiling down on us :-)This Hudson project is starting to scare the crud out of me!!!
