-
any clue what a 40 travler gear ratio might be ? Couldnt find a tag on dif.
-
From the 1940 Group parts manual in the online library there were 3 ratios:
4-1/9, 4-7/8 and 4-5/9 ratio.
4 1/9 to 1 ratio-Standard for 41-43-44-45-47-48P
without overdrive, Optional for 40 with or without
overdrive.
4 5/9 to 1 ratio-Standard for 41-43-44-45-47-48P with
overdrive, Standard for 40-48C without overdrive.
Optional for 41-43-44-47-48P without overdrive.
4 7/8 to 1 ratio-Standard for 40-48C with overdrive,
Optional for 40 without overdrive.

Jack up 1 rear wheel. Mark it and rotate 2 turns while counting the driveshaft revolutions.
It's probably one of those Alex mentioned but it's been 70 years and who knows what went on back there.
What with the short stroke engine it came with, I'd suspect a low one. -
True enough , with that much time past who knows what may be in there.

The 40-42 parts book shows 4 5/9 standard for the model 40's with standard engine & no OD, 4 7/8 with OD.
