Not sure what I have,I have a VIN # 17839156...not sure what year it is and would like to know . I just have a cab and bed,so not sure what the front end looked like.Appears to be a big boy as it has a very healthy stack of springs on it but im not sure what all makes one a big boy.There was no dash in it but the dash appears different from my 40 sedan,so im guessin 41 to 47.

Big Boy exists when you have the full 8 foot bed length. Short bed trucks (prewar only) are therefore not Big Boys.

The 178 in the SN pins it as a 47 Super Six Pickup. You should have 12 leaves in the rear springs. It's rated at 3/4 Ton By 46/47 they called them a Cab Pickup. Early on, they called the long wheelbase truck a Big Boy to differentiate it from the short wheelbase ones built on the short car frame. The front end, dash and cab is identical to the car, which is a good source for parts as they are still in junk yards.
If it has the original motor, (sheet metal water jacket running along the left side) it's a 212 CI, 3 in bore 5 in stroke rated at 102 HP Standard rear end ratio is 4:56 Wheelbase 128 in Tires were 6.50 x 16 6 ply standard.

Thanks Larry,im building this truck that was nearly ready for the crusher out of a bunch of part cars mostly Hudsons.51 Com 8 front end parts ,engine and tranny,40 travler front fenders and grill,steering box and column,and dash bits,50 pacemaker tail and parkin lights,and turn signal switch. I also have an AMC concord A/C compressor powering my air bags and a AMC gremlin master cylinder(easy conversion for dual cylinder for safety).Its been a VERY fun project this winter. Now I know to register it as a 47...thanks.

Dan - Sounds like you're way too far along on your project for this.
However, I have a spare '47 Hudson pickup suspension/frame that I saved it from being scrapped a couple of years ago.
