Oil tube
-
Dismantled a '49 262 and there was an oil tube in the front of the block feeding the lower timing chain sprocket up front. Turned out the block was cracked everywhere imaginable and I came up with a '50 block to continue with. I'm well into the process of re-assembly at this point and lo and behold the tapped hole is in the front of the block where the tube mounted on the other one but no oil passage hole to insert the tube in. Did Hudson discontinue this at some point or do I have one of a kind?
-
I would say some one installed that tube to try to stop the timing chain from stretching. A back yard job. Not by Hudson. Walt.

Thanks Walt but I solved the mystery. Had another newer engine in the shed. Pulled the timing cover and found a sheet metal trough that directed oil from the camshaft to the lower chain sprocket. Don't think the tube was a rig job...looks manufactured but the trough would have been considerably less expensive so I'm sure there was a change made.
