Hudson Upholstery fabric
-
Noted that Amazon claims to have the DURALEE blue and green check upholstery fabric which closely matches that which was found in 1953 and 1954 Hudsons.

Would not it be more for 53? I have a 53 Super Wasp ( parts car) and a 54 Super Wasp.
From memory this fabric could be like the one in the 53, but, as for the 54, it is some kind of hound's-tooth design. Would like to find some one day...But thanks for the info. It's always useful and deeply appreciated. Michel

That Duralee fabric is no longer made, and hard to find now. I found another company making a similar fabric , but is two tone colors. They are based in Dallas, and I have thought of going over and asking them if they can supply it as a solid color in green and blue. The duralee fabric was not an automotive grade fabric, and is vulnerable to staining and fading in sunlight. The new fabric I mentioned is for aircraft interiors, and should be more suitable for the kind of use we would give it.

Excellent reminder, Ken. My wife and I reupholstered a Mercury back in the '80s. She had some sofa material laying around. The car looked great for a year... then the ultra violet sunlight caused uneven fading near the windows, since the car was parked outside. Lazy-Boy sofas use a very similar material in one model, but we know better now.

Superwasp, I contacted SMS folks and they sent me a sample of a red and white hound's-tooth design. The design is a bit smaller than the original material that was in the car but it was a good quality wool material with a good backing on it. Not sure if I will buy any but it might be worth a shot for you to check them out.Brownie

Thanks Brownie! I'm not there yet but will take a look for sure. Michel

I am now in contact with this Dallas based company. They are checking with the mill about getting this made in a single color. The velvet squares and the backing cloth will be woven from same color yarns. Lets hope for good news from the mill! I am hoping the minimum order is not more than 200 yards, but we'll see. I think the green is in the most demand at this point, so I may have that done first. I need to heard from folks as to what is needed, and if they will actually buy it, it it is made......I don't want to spend $1000+ and only get a bit of it back and have two rolls of this nice fabric sitting unused in a closet. Yes, I will probably put an ad in WTN also when I hear back from the mill.
