The following article is in regards to the race car shown by lostmind. Clive Gibson was a well known Hudson mechanic here in Australia and ended up owning the red racer which belonged to Frank Kleinig I'll see if I can find a picture of that car and post here.

Burrows' car was a 'one off, with special body by Properts Body Works of Camperdown in Sydney. The body on this car was on Les' 1935 Terraplane and when Les acquired a new 1936 Hudson 8 minus the body, from Dalgety & Co., he transferred the body onto the 1936 Hudson.
Clive Gibson was a teenage fan of Les Burrows in the 1930's, and Burrows sent Clive a couple of autographed photos of the Hudson.
The photographs were taken in front of his garage & Hudson Dealership in the main street of Bowral (N.S.W.).
This car competed in the Australian Grand Prix at Victor Harbour (S. Australia) 26 December 1936 with a DNF (did not finish). Frank Kleinig was also in this event driving the McIntyre Hudson also with a DNF - burst top radiator tank.
Les won the 10-mile Championship in the Hudson at Penrith Speedway on ANZAC Day 1937 (Clive Gibson was there.) In its first form as a 1935 Terraplane, Les won the 116-mile road race at Phillip Island (Victoria) in November 1935. The Terraplane was painted green & the Hudson version was bright red.
Clive Gibson owned the car in the 1960's having bought it from a University student with the idea of a rebuild , but he was very busy, just starting in business, so he sold it to a friend, Col Young from West Ryde (Sydney). He in turn sold it back to the University student & no more is known.
The car was fully equipped with a nice hood, windscreen, Hudson mudguards & 6-wheel set up. It was very fast, being much lighter than a 4-door sedan - 24 cwt. Les stripped it for racing only & it was 20 cwt.
Les raced Terraplanes at different times and the various cars can be confused. In 1938 (Easter) he finished second in the AGP at Mount Panorama, driving a 1933 Terraplane (stripped) on the dirt road surface. Les' last competition event was the 1954 Redex Around Australia Trial in a Vanguard.

The number 5 car is the one owned by Frank Kleinig, and was the one Clive purchased from Frank, the other Hudson is another one that was owned by Frank, the number 5 car is still here in Oz owned by a guy named Ray Pank in Adelaide, the other may be the one in the museum at our famous Mount Panorama.

Conrod straight at Mount Panorama.
Formerly known as Main Straight, Conrod Straight was so named because of a con-rod failure that ended the 1939 Easter race of Frank Kleinig in his Kleinig/Hudson race-car. Conrod Straight is the fastest section of Mount Panorama, with today's V8 Supercars just reaching 300 km/h (186 mph). The straight is a roller-coaster ride featuring two distinct crests, the second of which was rebuilt in 1987. It has been on Conrod where five of the six car-racing deaths on the circuit have occurred – Bevan Gibson, Tom Sulman, Mike Burgmann, Denny Hulme and Don Watson. All except Hulme (heart attack) died in high-speed accidents. However, the chicane introduced into Conrod Straight has made it one of the fastest turns in the world. Most drivers arrive at the initial part of the chicane at over 290 km/h (180 mph).

Gez, and I thought Marshall Teague and Rathman were marginally sane. These guys are over the top. Did Hulme die of a heart attack from anticipating driving these things at 290 km/h?

Sorry Ron, the cars that do 290 kmh at the chicane are our present day V8 super cars.

You notice the overhead wipers on the 46-7 sedan ? It seems to also have normal wipers on cowl ?

My guess it is in England going by the number plate.

Looks like a '41 Traveler in the middle photo. The car at the shell station looks like a '39 Chrysler.
