This is the third or forth time this move has been made. One was filmed here in Ogden, Utah. I have to ask, why would this example have Oscar intrest?Brownie

Another "road" movie was Two Lane Blacktop, another "B" movie that has gained cult status among the young and the restless of the 1950's and 1960's.
The scenario, for those who haven't seen it, is about two drag racing drifters, portrayed by non-other than James Taylor (his only movie I've heard it said) and the Beach Boys Dennis Wilson and the driver of a Pontiac GTO, played by Warren Oats. No names are mentioned iin the movie - James is called only "the driver" and Dennis "the mechanic". There is a girl, a hitch-hiker whom they pick up - she's only called "the girl". Warran Oats does have a moniker of sorts - he calls himself GTO.
The boys are drifting across the country drag racing a '55 Chevy wherever they find drag races until they run across GTO - then it becomes a race to the east coast racing for "pinks" (after the color of their registration slips). Winner take all.
Tho it's in black and white (as I recall) there is some great seanic shots - several locations were filmed here in the Memphis area at the old Lakewood Drag Strip east of the city and further east in eastern TN.
Not a bad film if you like films of these types - and a great road trip.
