bench testing a splasher oil pressure sending unit
-
What is the procedure for bench testing a splasher engine oil pressure sending unit?
-
That should be a very low pressure switch 3-4 lbs should close it I think. It then grounds the terminal to the case. So an ohm meter or test light would show if it makes and break's,

Other way round. The circuit is closed to ground from the warning light to the sending unit, and the oil pressure opens the switch, causing the light to go out. So connect an ohmeter to the terminal and the body of unit, and you should have a circuit. Around 4 lbs pressure should lift the contact plunger and open the circuit. If you're stuck in a hole, stop digging.

Your right I dont know what I was thinking there Geoff .. .. .. The oil light goes out not on !

great! I'll test it today---

Forgot to post results back--
I took the sender off the engine and disassemble, made sure all was clean and looked ok. Took my ohm meter and checked-- 5 ohms If I remember right, the main thing is that it didn't show an open circuit.
Re-installed and checked- same reading and checked with test light, key on, light lit up. Cranked up, idled and 0 ohms and test light went out. So, at this point we know it's not the sender. So I moved to dash and started checking the dash lights, found that the gen and oil light had been put in the two top holes and not the bottom proper holes (when I had the dash on the bench). Switched them out and Viola! All is well!
Thanks all!
