Removed the distributor on my '37 Terraplane, replaced points and condensor, installed distributor at tabout a 3 o'closk position, will start and run a bit rough with starting fluid, fuel gets to carburator, but carburator appeard to not function. Back to the distributor, should it be at 3 or 5 o'clock when installed? I will probably have to get a new carburator as this one has been rebuilt, but does not work. Thanks for any help. Sounds like you may be a tooth off with the distributor. With the number one cylinder at top dead center. The rotor should be pointed to the wire leading to number one cylinder. I mark the distributor with a paint marker as where the rotor is pointed when I remove it. Makes it easy to reinstall.

And to Gene's comments on timing, I'd add: don't forget the timing sequence is 1-5-3-6-2-4.

Also, try a different condenser. "It's always the condenser".

Yes ,And dont put in one of those cheap Chinese ones or you will be in there again two weeks from now doing it over. Find a new old stock one instead,
