Where could these have possibly come from?
-
These little Devils (not the penny) where sitting in my 308 oil pan after I pulled it in preparation to pull the pistons and freshen up the internals. Any thoughts as to where they could have come from?
I have no idea.Six in a row makes it GO! -
Looks like the o-ring seal that goes on the oil pan where the oil pick-up tube sticks up, so as to plug into the block. Maybe in past work one or two have fallen into the pan and not been retrieved.
-
Possibly they fell in when someone was adding oil? They don't look like any part of an oil can that I'VE ever seen, though!
-
They look like pieces of a spring. Shiney steel.Six in a row makes it GO!
-
Well, I had the pan off early this year. I'm the only one who touches my cars, so unless it was in a jug of oil...Six in a row makes it GO!
-
Grim,
Looks like it could be part of your muffler bearings.
John -
Crap.
I checked those when I serviced my Johnson rods...Six in a row makes it GO! -
Glen Johnson would be happy to know that you checked his rods?Brownie
-
Could it be the oil pressure relief spring? I can't see how even if this broke that the coils could get down into the motor though. Otherwise I suggest you check the frammis compensator, as this could lead to the hexical jackshaft getting scrambled and upset the digital rejiggerator. If you're stuck in a hole, stop digging.
-
Pressure relief spring is good.
Hm, fuel pump? I have a new AMC-type... No problems with it though, been working just fine. Guess I'll pull it next.Six in a row makes it GO! -
THEY LOOK LIKE SPRINGS TO ME ???? AT 1ST I THOUGHT HOG RINGS FOR PUTTING THE SEAT COVERING ON BUT AFTER A GOOD LOOK ???? WHAT WOULD THEY BE DOING IN THE OIL PAN??
-
I believe that Grim Greaser has hit the nail on the head. Some fuel pumps have an exposed spring under the pump arm. If one of those pumps with out the correct spacer was installed the cam would potentially bend the arm and break the support spring. Guessing with the rest... I choose pieces of a broken fuel pump spring.
