Splasher Engine Rebuilders
-
I'm looking to get the engine rebuilt in our '30 Essex and need some recommendations. We had what appears bad lubrication to the rear of the engine and had a rod bearing melt out and who knows what else. I'm hoping someone has some ideas of who can rebuild this type of engine in eastern PA, NJ, that area. I really don't want to ship it if I don't have to. But all recommendations are appreciated. Thanks.Steve

THANX!! -
Bigboy308,
There are quite a few shops around, even in your area I'm sure. Around the Tri-Cities, I've had pretty good luck with most shops - they seem to be located over in Pasco. Just took the head/valves in to be checked for my Oldsmobile Toronado 425; It was actually all in good shape anyway, but was cleaned, vacuum tested, and valve seals replaced for $70.
I had the babbit bearings redone on my 1941 splasher six years ago by Strong Engine near Spokane, WA. The owner Rick Carnegie seems like a nice guy, but also knowledgeable on a broad variety of engines. He has some very old Ford engines he has restored, but he also has done the high end stuff like Cord and Cadillac engines from the 20s and 30s. Took me years to get the engine back together myself, but that is done now. Still haven't run the engine, but it's coming soon. Perhaps you could ask Fred Conners (NW member) if you are re-doing a stepdown engine.
