who makes a 12v distributor 4 a 308?

    We are working on the 7x in the '51 brougham again.We need a 12v distributor for it as it has the Chevy 700r4 behind it and a new style 12v starter,so does anyone know if there is a 12v distributor out there?,thanks again guys

    It is very easy to convert a stock distributor to 12v (- ground) by upgrading to electronic ignition. Petronix makes a unit that can be installed with very few modifications and takes about one hour. The conversion costs $125.00, P/N 1362.

    You can also obtain the correct 12v condensor and coil (points are the same), will also work with the vehicle electrical system converted to 12v.

    Your six volt distributor will work pefectly on 12 volts. You will need to use a ballist resistor on the coil..otherwise the points and condensor don't know the difference.

    If you're changed to 12v but not ready to go Pertronix, use NAPA/Echlin IC-12 (for ‘56 Hornet 6). This coil has built-in ballast resistor. If you want to bypass the resistor during engine cranking, use coil IC-14 and separate ballast resistor ICR-13, and use starter solenoid ST-816. No difference in the points or condenser.

    Hello, Like you I have a 7X type motor with a 200 R4 Chevrolet auto. trans. I am now in the process of converting late model 12 volt electronic distributors to a drop in kit for the Hudson 6. The kit has the electronic moduel that mounts on the inner finder and has a 3 wire pigtail that connects to a matching pigtail from the distributor. All the replacement parts can be purchased at Auto Zone, Advance or NAPA at a reasonable price. I will have one in my car in the next few days. If interested, email me at lbpatstokes@netzero.com

    The unit that I use is the type that fits the 258 AMC 6 cyl. Don't have a final price yet. Will let you know when I get final cost from machine shop.

    Is this an electronic type distributor? If so,which type of box are you using? The earlier boxes had too many problems and limited dependability. AMC only ran them for a few years in the 70's. The later Ford boxes were a better unit and were utilized until AMC's demise.

    Yes it's an electronic distributor. Although ordered for 80-82 AMC Concord, the unit has Motorcraft on it's side and uses Ford module. Evidently they both used same units.

    Hi everyone. I am new to the Hudson family. Currently working on a 47 pickup. I am hoping to get a 308 hornet engine to work in the truck. I have a 46 hudson car with the original engine. My questions are many, but for starters. Can i use the distributor, and starter from this car on the 308 engine? From the above readings I see that I can go with a 12 volt system. I want to because the truck was stripped of everything including all wiring, so upgrading seems appropriate at this time. I am considering a wiring harness from a company call SPEEDWAY. The price seems within reason. I have a 308 hornet engine complete with a hydramatic tranny. The tranny in the car is a 3 speed, so I could put that one in the truck for the sake of simplicity. Others have said using the hydramatic is more complicated. Someone recommended that I try to find a 3 speed transmission with overdrive to make it easier to get up to and maintain current highway speeds. Does anyone have one they would part with? The car also comes with a radiator, can I use it or do I need a bigger one? The engine does have the twin H carb setup, but no carb linkage and no air filters. Does anyone have either of those items? Just starting so many more questions to follow. Thanks in advance for everyones help

    Another source, Chuck Fellows(Texas) is manufacturing GM based drop-in electronic distributors. See current WTN.

    If your 46 car has the original motor in it then no the distributor wont fit the 308. The 46 would have had a 212 or 254 engine originaly bolth older design than the 308. If you put the 308 and Hydromatic in it will fit many have been done. You will need a new crossmember for the trany to sit on. Or some sort of mounts as the back of the motor has none. The older overdrive transmissions are hard to find . The twin -H linkage is being reproduced now by someone for about $125.00 I think. The filters are around but not cheap expect to pay $200.00 for those.
    My 47 had 308 in it and what looked like an original type radiator. It may have been one for an 8 cyl . motor but I dont know .And it worked fine as far as running cool goes,
