Fuel Sending Unit Float Arm

Does anyone out in Hudsonland have some advice on the correct way to bend the float arm on a fuel sending unit. I purchased a unit for a '49 Ford F1 Pickup that has the same screw pattern. This is going in my '50 Commodore Six. The float arm is straight and I know that a Hudson float arm has several bends in it. I have nothing to compare it to as the original sending unit was removed from the tank by the previous owner. Any thoughts?

if you state where you are located, I'm sure there is someone near who has an original unit you can comare it to.
