Features You Would Like To See in ClassicCar

    Hello everyone,

We're working on making ClassicCar even better for you! We've listened to your feedback and have been working hard over the last couple of months to release the latest new face of the website. We're hoping this new version of the website makes your ClassicCar experience even more enjoyable and are constantly looking for ways to improve! If you have not had a look around the website, we have changed the layout of all pages to bring you a smoother, quicker and cleaner experience, without changing the Forum - so please have a look around! We would love to hear from you about the following topics:

    - Overall look and feel of the website
    - Existing features you think could be improved
    - New features you would like to see
    - Any problems you are having with the website

Thanks for your patience with all of the changes we have made over the last year, and we promise no more drastic changes in the near future :) We want to make this website the home for all things ClassicCar!

    Thankyou for your feedback,
    Rachael

    Classic Car.

Put my '50 Hudson Commodore on your free adds list on Sunday August 19. Checked it today the 20th, and it's not there!

    Hi Nevada Hudson,

Our website administration has been a little swamped with tasks this last week due to all of the website changes. I've let them know that your listing is still processing and it should be live within the next 24 hours. :)

    Thanks,

    Hi Rachael,

I can no longer find the copy option to use on the discussions that I want to save. If it is here somewhere, please tell me where. I used to be able to copy a discussion as a PDF. I could then save it on my computer, or print it. I have not tried to use the option for a while, so I am not sure when it disappeared. If it is still here somewhere and I am just unable to find it, I will be embarrassed!

    Thank you,
    Michael

Just for the record, how come PM's (private messages) aren't private? I can go under "activity" and see everyone's PM's. I know I used to be a moderator when we started this new format, but can everyone else see everyone's PM's?

    Dear Nevada Hudson,
I am looking in admin to try to find your car and make sure it was approved but I cannot seem to find it. Please if you could email me directly with your registered email address and I will look you up in the system to try and work out where your listing is. Sorry for the inconvenience, if its already been pushed live just let me know so I can stop looking. Please email me at: info@classiccar.com

    Dear mdwhit,
I am not sure about that option, I am not an avid user of the forum but its possible it was not included in this theme when the uploaded it some time ago. I will ask our developers if they can add it simply, but it may be a while because they have a lot of small tweaks to do. Duly noted :)

    Dear RL Chilton,
That is a concern for your privacy, I will have it looked at as soon as possible. I'm really sorry this has happened but thank you so much for bringing it to our attention so we can fix it!

    Dear 46HudsonPU,
I'm sure that opening links to a new window by default is not too hard to integrate and I will have it added to the developers task. You are right, it is a little annoying if it opens over the top of where you are in the forum/website! I will ask and see if there is a feature for quoting that perhaps was not turned on, or if we can install one. It would be useful in the forum, I agree!

Thanks for your comments! Keep them coming!

    Hi Rick,

Thanks for that, I've changed my comments to the developers about PM to look at that. I am not a pro at forum bits and pieces, I am still learning myself, but I believe activity is your posts from all the different public forums you've commented on.

I cannot edit my posts from within the activity screen either, as its just a feed of your combined posts. You can manage them individually from within the relevant forum topic its posted in. I will ask the developers to please add in edit and delete buttons for better functionality.

    Hi Rick,

There are actually two different "Activity" sections. The top green one is an activity feed for the whole website. When you are looking at your profile, there is also a tab which you can view your own individual activity.

If you send a message that is not private, it will appear in the public activity feed and everyone will be able to see it. If you dont want a message to appear in the public activity feed, then dont make your message public. Does that help clear up my meaning? Perhaps I can ask for them to be renamed "Public Activity", and "My Activity" as its confusing?

    Rachael.

Ok I understand how that makes sense. Perhaps I will ask for it to default to the new "send a private message" tab when they install it then.

Oh thats annoying about the website links, we really do try to keep our adverts to a minimum for you guys to have a better experience. I'll make a note to see if we can get that resolved shortly.

I'd like to see a button to take you to the next most recent unread post in the same category or sub-category as you are current reading. This assumes that you are logged in as a member.
Currently I have to go via the main forum screen but the relevant info is held in the program to enable my request.

Jon B - thats a nice idea, I'll see if we can find an easy way to integrate that.

Dave Y - We're looking at improving the forum in the coming months to resolve a lot of issues, this will be one of them.

Rick - we're still looking into why moderators cannot edit posts, issue is still open, please let me know if it resolves.

Some forums I frequent have a small number to the side of posts that record "HIts". All i see on this forum is number of replys. Would that be a problem?

Hi Rick - thanks for that, I can delete mine from there also it seems. Its added to my list of tasks though with the forum to look at.

Hi SuperDave - Thats just not a feature in the current theme I believe. It would be a good thing to have though - to gauge the amount of interest in a topic even though not everyone comments, they just want a read. I'll add it to my list of suggestions! Thanks!

It would be wonderful if there would be a way to get a Chat Room going again. It was a great way to catch up, in real-time, with friends at least a few times a week. There are times when one needs an answer to something quickly - and that was our best way to go about it.

Keep up the good work with things...

    Hi Laurie,

I'm definitely pushing to have the chat room feature brought in soon, I've had a few people comment on it and its a great idea. Thanks for the suggestion - the more people who request the same thing the easier it is to convince the company that we NEED those features to make you guys happy :) Have a great day!

Seems to me the forum doesn't have some suggestions to fix. It needs to trash the entire format. Go to the old set-up, like the HAMB has and it will be self explanitory, you won't have any of the above suggestions.

Thank you Rachael for making an honest effort to iron out the bugs here. But I think it needs a new format completely, this one, ...not good.

This is one of the most confusing forums I've ever been a party to. What is the relationship between classiccar.com and the HET club? why is my login ID my email address instead of the name I chose to be called in the forum? Why when I log in does the login request still show that I have not logged in. Why can't I change my password at will? Why when I request to change a password, and the instructions say that I will get an email from you, I never get an email? Very user unfriendly design I must say. Thanks for letting me (hyper) vent. 34terraplaner, aka cmasonwhf, aka...........????

    Hi guys,

I hear what you're saying and I'm just going to let you know that we are working on some significant improvements, taking in everyones feedback so far, to the forum behind the scenes. Watch this space and fingers crossed we can get a smile on everyones dial within the next month or two :) Thanks everyone for the feedback, without your feedback we dont know which bits you want improved, so please do keep them coming!

    Kind regards,
    Rach

Is the search function active? I type in 'stepdown wheel cylinder' in the search box and I get discussions having nothing to do with the search request. Thanks, Joe

When will the "search" function be active? I am trying to find info on subjects that were posted (37 Terraplane hood trim) and can't get anything related to come up.
The old search function on the older forum was easy to use and worked well.

    Hi There Joe and Kdancy,

The search function is not very smart as a plugin unfortunately and its an issue we are trying to work on resolving. We will hopefully have a more functional search plugin coming within the next month or two, we have a whole bunch of upgrades in the pipeline and they all just take a little time. We're doing our best to get this to you ASAP though!

I would like to know why there are no comments when I look at old posts on the forum. Does the new forum include the complete history brought over from the old forum on Classicar?

After reading a post on the Hudson forum and then click on the return arrow, the screen does not return to the unread posts, thather the screen jumps back and forth between posts and Classiccar face page 3 or 4 times before settling on the Classiccar face page. Then I have to scroll down to the posts to read unread posts.

Can you fix it, so when clicking on the return arrow the screen returns directly to the unread posts without jumping all around.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Lee,

Thanks for your comment, I will alert the developers to have a look at the problem and see what went wrong. It is supposed to only go back one page, not jump around at all. Please could you try clearing your browsers cache and get back to me if the problem still persists.

    Thanks again,
    Rachael.

Hi Thanks for that Walt, I cannot see the problem here either but I am also on an Apple computer.

Lee the browsers cache is where your internet browser stores information about the website you are visiting, it helps the website to load faster and reduces your wait time. Sometimes bits and pieces get stuck behind and cause little bugs or errors by mistake. To clear the cache is simple though instructions depend on what browser you are using. Your browser may be called, Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer etc and there are different version numbers of each. You can find that out by looking at the "About" section of the program (usually located under FILE or TOOLS). Here are some basic instructions on clearing cache to get you started. If you need more help, let me know and I will do my best to assist you :)

This is a lot of expaining.
Think of this like a comedian telling a bad joke. ...If he's got to do this much expaining in order for people to understand it. It's not the audience that's bad, it's the joke.

The entire format is disapointing, and does not work well for information/picture sharing. Which is what a classic car forum is all about.

Rachael, all of your hard work would be better to go towards starting over with a HAMB type template. Think of this way. Sometimes a floor pan gets rusty to the point where it can't be patched up any more. It needs to be remade entirely. Or how about this, if we polish and polish, and polish, and polish some more. Will this turd ever get shiny?

Sorry about the spelling, I couldn't find the spell check.

I thought the forum was ok before the big change, it was a Hudson forum now it is everything and more steps to get to Hudson section and even then not real clear where your at. Haven't been here much since change, and when I have it's been frustrating. Not to mention how many times it wouldn't recognize my user name and then would do a password change only to have to do it again a day later!!! Not sure what happened but it worked this time!!
All in all thanks for the forum. Change is part of life, we will warmup to it eventually.

I would like the SEARCH to work like it should. Everything not related to the search is what shows up on the screen and not a word related to the search shows up.

Hi guys, thanks all for your comments, its a work in progress but we have some exciting new features to the website coming over the next month to live. Fingers crossed we will be able to sort out a few of the crinkles in the website soon.

Lee - I am aware that there is a problem with the search box, its a plugin to the forum theme and a bit of a big problem! Our developers have been tasked with improving a lot of functionality and this is one of them :)

In the meantime Lee, if you want to search for something specific, go to Google, and use the following search:

    site:classiccar.com SEARCH TERM

Where "SEARCH TERM" is replaced by the actual search term you want to use. Works a treat.

Hi Rick, we are working on it. I've been away from work for a month on leave and didn't get a chance to reply to any of my emails until now - so sorry! We are not leaving things "under the rug", the developers have been working in the background while I have been away and over the Christmas period, we like all other businesses slow a bit, as I am sure you understand. Look forward to a better functioning forum early 2013. :)
