I pulled this out from one of the parts boxes. I think it is a radiator hose? Looks like it has an inline thermostat with flapper valve---

It is a valve to divert partial hot water flow through the smaller hose fitting for a hot water heater which one has to assume your car has.

Yes, the PU has a hot water heater, but it is hooked up to a water valve on the top of the engine. That valve is operated by pulling or pushing a choke like cable to turn off or on the water flow into the heater core.
    Thanks!

Actually, originally there would have been a simple valve at the cylinder head, which one would have manually activated. The remote cable didn't come to Hudsons for another 2 or 3 years I think.

Sometimes in salvaged cars, one will find an in-line thermostat installed along the radiator hose. Some of them were actually adjustable in terms of the operating temperature. These were aftermarket items, not Hudson...so far as I know.
