It is my understanding that a new Hudson equipped with a Hydra-matic transmission in 1952 (perhaps '51, '53 & '54, as well) had a paper sleeve wrapped around the visor giving instructions as to the proper operation of the Hydra-Matic.

Does anyone have a photo, or an original sleeve of one of these? I'd like to make a reproduction, if possible.

There was one with my '53 Super Wasp Brougham when I purchased the car at 20K miles. It would be the same visor sleeve of thin poster board stock (not paper) for all '52-54 Dual Range Hydro-equipped cars, but not the '51 single range Hydro. I think I still have it...... somewhere. Decent condition as I recall.

I did a very similar project for the '57-58 Chrysler and DeSoto with pushbutton torqueflites. Printed the sleeves from a nearly mint original. Printer said it was quite a challenge though only red and black inks were used on that example.

I did have one on my 51 Hornet that I bought in 1959 with 14000 miles on it. Now maybe someone took one off of a 52 or newer. I will have to look and see. Like everything else I have accumulated it may take some time.

I have a repoduction for a single range hydramatic that I bought from K-Gap about 10 years ago. I'd be glad to scan it and e-mail it or color copy and send it by mail.

Was there one version for single range and another for dual range? I'd for sure want the dual range, but could use both, if I plan on making reproductions.

Russ, there was at least 3. 1 for the single, 1 for the dual and one for the Borg warner. There is a guy on EBay who sells repros of the single (I think).

Was the Borg Warner good for a '50 Pacemaker?

If so, I'd like to find a repro for mine.

Nope! Borg warner transmissions were only used in a short run of 54's. 1950 did not have automatic transmissions. I bet there was a sunvisor jacket for the drive Master etc. The 1942 did ..

I thought that BW meant the O/D unit on my '50 Pacemaker.

The Borg Warner automatic transmission was used for part of the '54 model run after the GM Hydramatic plant burned down, so there were no Hydramatics available for a time. Completely different than the Borg Warner overdrives, used in all OD Hudsons (and many other marques).

I have an original sleeve that I bought from Red Burke, who has recently passed. It's yellow and black entitled, 'Know Your Hydramatic Drive' on one side and 'How to Operate Your Hydramatic Drive' on the reverse. I could make a copy and mail it to you. Let me know if this will help.
