1938 (?) Hudson/Terraplane Utility Coupe Bed - on Craigslist
-
$500 Looks pretty good, no dents, etc.. (see pictures). My understanding of Hudson pre-war, only the 1938 year had both 'Hudson' and 'Terraplane' on the tailgates - so by that logic, this should be a 1938 bed.
Just in case it disappears, here's the text:
"THIS IS A VERY, VERY RARE OPTIONAL SLIDE IN PICKUP STYLE BED FOR A 1936 THRU 1939 HUDSON COUPE BODY***I BELIEVE A SIMILAR ONE WAS USED FOR THE SAME VINTAGE CHEVY,MAYBE JUST CHANGE THE TAILGATE***WHEN HAVE YOU EVER SEEN ONE OTHER THEN IN PICTURES ????***602-300-5865*** I USED WHITE SHOE POLISH TO SHOW THE EMBOSSED HUDSON TERRAPLANE LETTERING ON TAILGATE"

Some of you guys are good at spotting engines, What kind is that to the right and upper in picture three. John
-
Looks like a 212 3x5, 37-39 to me.
Gene. -
Probably a 38 Hudson-built splasher 6, in the donor which gave up the bed.

I kinda agree with Uncle Josh. It's definitely pre 1940 because the distributor is NOT on the top of the block. But some of the 39's did have a floor shift.

Unc - Think you're spot-on. I think the shock towers by the front wheels on the frame are 38-39 specific. Rear distributor on the engine makes it a late 30s - and as Kevin points out, The floor shifter is also a piece to the puzzle (my '39 112 3-speed w/floor shift).
