My first post, hope following protocol...I am an orphan as well as a member of the Studebaker Drivers Club but am planning on letting go of my 1955 President, filling its spot in the garage with a Hudson. Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I am looking for a 1936 Terraplane business coupe (please do not snicker and say, "good luck with that"...) Hoping for complete, original (not hot rod), running perhaps older resto vehicle. If someone out there has this vehicle to sell, please let me know. I am in the Buffalo, NY area but would travel a bit to check out a good prospect. PS the Pres will then be for sale/trade so keep that in mind. Thanks!

I was investigating a '37 in Canada but do not believe that deal will work. My preference would be for a '36 as I prefer the styling of the grill to the '37. Were there multiple 2-door models for the year 1936?

There are five on eBay today, but sorry no coupes...... Woops, those are all 37's.

The car is in the middle of the US so it would be a long haul to Buffalo, but that depends on how bad you want it. This is an non-restored car that is close to all there... let me know.

Have been watching/having discussions with the sellers of the 37's on eBay - one may turn into a lead on a '36 coupe...keep your fingers crossed. Are there pics for the one you mentioned hudsonsoul? Can't hurt to look.

There's a 36 Sedan in Vt that still casts a shadow. Still has the cigar in it's mouth. Not sure where it is, but I know the guy who knows the guy. I've already got one of 'em so I'm not interested in it.

Thanks. I forwarded it to hubby - I think we are looking for something a bit "shinier" but looks straight - 15k seems like a lot needing interior, paint and tires but what do I know?!

I would agree that 15K for that car is high. Do not be in too big of a hurry, as winter approaches there should be a few show up. Also, for 15K you should be able to drive it home. It might need some work, but it would be rust free and a good driver. For 25K you should be able to take it to a local car show and it just might win a sponsor trophy. It would be a good driver and dependable. Either a nice original or an amature restoration. For the 35K mark it would be a professional restoration and a car anyone would be excited to see and proud to own. Some might go above that price but they are most likely dreamers hoping for a good pay day. In the meantime, you might want to join up with a local hudson group and start speaking with some locals. They might have a lead for you...

Thanks. We are definitely not "show car" folks - we have five projects in the garage and they are all essentially daily drivers. I would be proud to own a Terraplane in "any" condition other than rust bucket because I want to show it off in public regardless of its little imperfections. I am hot to make a deal shortly as I will need to sell my '55 Studebaker to make room for the Hudson in the garage - hoping folks looking for winter projects will speed the process along. Don't forget, I live in Buffalo, NY...it will be winter shortly and for a loooong time, ha!

Well, now I need to start a new conversation chain (and change my profile pic). I just made a deal on a 1937 2dr slant back sedan! I won't celebrate totally till it's in my driveway, title in hand. Bought it online, have not seen it in person but it is an older resto, new tires, no rust, new wiring, redone correct mohair interior in super condition, new exhaust and window and trunk seals. Unfortunately had developed an engine knock so anticipating dropping another grand - 11K - I think I did ok. Thoughts?

I have a Boogie-Woogie piano CD with a 36 Terraplane business coupe on the cover, and inside. The car has the rare "Piano Motor" that Hudson developed during the depression to capitalize on the Boogie-Woogie craze but did not use. (Written up in the WTN) It is the only Hudson Terraplane piano motor in existence :) Link:

Welcome to this wonderful world. Now you have taken the step we are all really excited for you. Dave's comment was most likely realistic and I can assure you that he is not a party pooper? You can see from his avtar that he is just as sick as the rest of us. I have a roadster pick up that is very nice. I got an offer to sell her yesterday for more than twice than she is worth. I should sell, but I did not. I am having too much fun. Price does not really come into play when we talk about these cars. We visit reality (like Dave) every once and a while but then press on. Your car sounds great!! Excited to see some photo's. And, be sure to join a local Chapter of the Hudson Club. You will be warmly accepted and respected--well, your car will win them over at first sight, you will need to try a little, but it will not take long.......

Hudsonsoul - thinking I got more bang for my buck on this vehicle than the roached out one for 15K on Craigslist :)

Does not look like the Western New York chapter is very active. Their web site seems to be down but I did get ahold of someone and they are having a get together on the 22nd close by so I am going to try to make that - hopefully I will have the Terraplane by then but not sure if she will be on the road with the engine issues since not entirely sure what is up...sounds like she may have sucked some gunk up from the pan...

Welcome aboard. This is the greatest bunch of car nuts around. HET is not really a car club - it's a family club. I've been a member of a lot of car clubs over the years, but after 43 years I'm still with the Hudson club and the rest are in the dust. That should tell you something. Have fun and enjoy.

Got a meet near your place - by all means take the T'plane if it has arrived by then. Tow it, push it, whatever - just take it and go. If you have a chance to drop the pan and clean it out I'll go out on a limb and say somebody at that meet will try to get it running. LOL

Thanks Husdontech. I was told by the seller that the Terraplane comes with its original '37 owners manual and a repro shop manual so that is all good. I plan to hook up with the HET - as a member of national Studebaker Drivers Club and local SDC Iroquois Chapter, I know that is a valuable tool - if only to surround oneself with like-minded whackos. :))

Hudson people tend to be a tad bit out of synch with the rest of the world. LOL
The service magazines in the online library are worth reading thru.
I wouldn't have minded owning a StudBacker back in the day. They were very good cars.

Sure looks nice, you sure couldn't put a project together for that money. I
've heard the western NY chapter is pretty quiet the last few years. My parents and brother are members but my parents don't drive their cars anymore. There are a lot of members and cars in the area, just not too much activity.

Congrats on your newest family member. I have a 37 four dr. sedan and it's a very nice driving car. The 3x5 six cylinder engines like the one in your car are very tough. Hope the knock is an easy fix. Post more pictures when you get a chance, we love pictures. Please ask question!! You'll get some good info from the people on this forum.

I put the Stude on Craigslist this am and already got a guy to come look at it, we fired her up but he is coming back in a day or so to take a spin - cross your fingers.

I'm not the '57 Chevy type of gal, I like a more unusual, head-turning ride. I was working on a '60 TBird when I asked myself, "is this my dream car?" After seeing the Studebaker my answer was no. Sold the square bird and bought the President in '94. About a 10 years ago, I went with a friend to check out a '68 GTX - it was all orange and striped like the General Lee but my attention was on the rusty hulk on the other side of the garage, a '36 Terraplane...she had haunted my dreams ever since!

Plus, since I do not think I will ever be in the '36 Cord Supercharged convertible tax bracket, this is the next best example of art deco styling in my estimation.

Uncle Josh lives about 30 minutes north of Amsterdam, NY. He himself has a 1936 Terraplane, running though not restored. At the very least try to get to his annual car meet around the 4th of July weekend, in Northville, NY.

That's waaaaay on the other side of the state! I am just south of Buffalo, that would be quite the treck, besides we are always out of town over the 4th. Perhaps another occasion.
