Alternative Carburetor for 32/33 Terraplane Six ?

I'm asking for help for my friend with the Terraplane Windoverette.
He's got a worn out Carter carburetor that he's had overhauled but that hasn't helped very much at all. He's not in the least bit interested in originality, just getting the car to run right so that he can enjoy it.
Can anyone please suggest an alternative carb that he can fit that is -
    a) Easy to find
    b) Simple to fit and adjust
    c) Will work on a Terraplane 6
Could he use one of those repro Stromberg 97's that Egge sell ?
If he can't get help soon, he's thinking of selling the car and buying an Alvis - we can't let that happen, can we ?!!!

If he uses one of the universal type carburetors, is it possible to buy adapter base plates for them or will he have to fabricate something ?

Here is where you can get an adapter for any single or double barrel carb:

Thanks very much for the information, everyone. I'll pass it on to my Terraplane owning friend.
