Starter for a 1954 Hudson 232 Engine?

What starter is supposed to go with a 1954 Hudson 213 engine? I've looked at Alex's online literature, however I did not see anything at refers directly to a 1954 232 engine.

However, looking at other years - an "MZ-4167" or "MCH 6204" will work for 50-52 (?). Manuals also refer to "MCH 6109" for 262, 308 and 254 - since the 262 is essentially the same block, shouldn't it work for the 232 as well?

Does any or all of this apply to a '54 232?

And, does anyone have a spare/excess starter (in good condition) for my 232? (hopefully somewhat local...).

All you realy need to know is if its for a automatic or stick . 308 & 232 should interchange

Sorry, forgot to mention that - It is planning stages for a manual transmission.

Starters - What engines do they work with?
MCL-6006 This appears to be for 48-49 Model years. Will this work for the '54 232?
    MZ-4084 (?)
    AJ-4057 (?)

    MCL-6006 - 1948-1950 exc. Pacemaker
    MZ-4167 - 1952 Pacemaker, 1953-1954 Jet, 1953-1955 Wasp - all with Standard TRans.
    MCH 6107 (w/Hydra-matic) - 1951-1954 all exc Jet
    MCH-6109 (w/Standard Transmission) - 1951-1952 exc. Pacemaker, 1953-1954 Wasp Hornet, 1956 Hornet 6

Don't believe MZ-4084 or AJ (MJ???)-4057 were used in Hudson applications.

This info is in the General Information Handbook which is in the "Other Hudson, Essex, Terraplane section of the on-line library.

    Thanks Alex.
Just about the only document I didn't open, and the one I should have opened to begin with... :O

I did find an "MAJ-4057" listed in your reference publication (for: 38 Model 89; 1939 early 90, 98)
(the starter in question does not appear to have a Hudson label, so it may have been a parts store OTC replacement (?)).

Still looking/researching, and still need a starter for my '54 232.

Early starters (48-49) had the solenoid mounted on the starter, so will have holes tapped for mounting the solenoid, where later starters had the solenoid on the fender apron. Early starters can be used on later engines. Not the other way around. unless you change the cable and solenoid routing.

You mentioned the word 'planning', which makes me think to say that you should make sure the flywheel on the 232 you're putting the 'manual' starter on had a manual starter previously. In other words the starters are per 'automatic or manual', as are the flywheels on the engines.

Thanks hudsonguy - everything in back of the engine being coordinated with Doug Wildrick - flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, bell housing and transmission.

SuperDave - I wasn't aware of that aspect. Wondered why, now I know - learned something new today. Thanks!
