Pebble Beach- Car auction by Gooding and Company
-
While checking the Pebble Beach/Gooding and Company Car Auction, I was surprised by auction #112, a 1952 Hudson Hornet 4 door sedan. Can any HET (or other club member) tell me what was so special about that 1952 Hudson Hornet? When the car came across the block... the bidding began right away... and when the hammer came down, the car sold for an amazing $178,750.00! Talk about a record for a Hudson Hornet! I didn't see the car but it must have been in meticulous condition... or was it a One-Off model? Any input from HET members?

I looked at the car at the auction. It was a nicely and thoroughly restored car in original Hudson color scheme. Upholstery pattern was not correct, but close. Restoration was done by well regarded Bob Mosier Restoration in Los angeles. It seemed there were at least three and maybe four bidders who wanted the car and had the means to go for it. Just another reminder than Hudsons are well thought of in the rarified world of Gooding Auction bidders as well as in the HET world.

Wow 178 K for a sedan.... I could've picked up like 15 of em from other members at that price. hehe

I had to look to see if I just read the first post wrong. -
Here is the description of the car...

My 52 was a very nice car. But I have to say, even restored, it was only worth a fraction of that price. I have to wonder how a car can bring ten times what it is actually worth?Brownie

$178K for a manual w/OD? Aaron's right. They could have had at least a dozen of those if they'd had done some research!
