Antone know where to find a good one that's not got the supplier's logo plastered all over it? i.e., want one that looks like it could have been an original offering.

    Park,

I ordered the following from Clark Industries / Repops. in 2009. It's a 48" X 65" pad, light yellow/gray in color, 1/2" thick, their item number is INS101. I cut it down to fit the hood of my 1954 Hornet sedan. They specified the use of 3M adhesive, 3M High-Strength Spray Adhesive 90 (24oz can). I had to order the adhesive directly from 3M, you may be able to find it locally.

They have different sizes and thickness also. Their web site says that it is under construction, but you can call them at 1-800-BY-REPOPS. The gentleman that I spoke to was very helpful.

    Hope this helps!

I have gone to local heating/air condition shop and purchased insulation that is placed on outside of air ducts.

Just for the record, were these pads originally on the cars from the factory? I know there is one on my sedan, and Walt has told me to get rid of it and not put one on the convertible. If I don't put one on the 'vert, I was a little concerned about the heat from the engine cooking the hood, but Walt hasn't had one on his coupe since he restored it and his paint looks fine.

Russ - The pad was standard equipment on Hornets & Commodores of the period 1952 thru 1954

I don't think it was standard - it might have been part of a "Package" at that time.

    Russ,
I don't think they were offered originally. My concern is not cooking the underside of the hood (never a problem with that), but rather, suppressing some of the engine noise that's transmitted through the hood. My car is a nice driver, with 12v, A/C and cruise control, so I'm not concerned over whether it was offered originally or not.

My 50 pacemaker sedan came with it, not sure if it was a dealer installed item but definitely came installed when new. Definitely not an option paid extra for either, as my grandpa was cheap and it's not listed on the receipt.

Interesting. Maybe one of those "mandatory extras" many dealers used to do (and still do!).
