Hudson Oil Filter Housing - I need one

Imagine my surprise last week when I went to change oil on my 49 Commodore. Drained the oil, then went change the filter, and there wasn't one. Not even an oil filter housing. Just a plug in the block where one should be. I'll have to ask my Dad what the heck he was thinking?? Anyway, I need one. Would one of you have one you'd be willing to sell (with the connecting lines and bracket would be a big plus). I look forward to hearing from you.

Just an FYI - Back then, the oil filter was an option. Even my '54 232 has the oil filter installed as an aftermarket option on the driver's side of the engine.

The filters used then were not the greatest. They are a only a bypass system. Certainly better than nothing.....but not much. I have a few of them on the shelf, but the hoses would need replacing, and the housing would need to be cleaned and painted. I will send you one for the cost of shipping if you want. I also see them restored, on Ebay quite often.

Any way to install a flow-thru system? If so, is there a parts list and instructions?

Interesting.....A vendor at National had brand new hoses that I was going purchase. he stopped me and told me that the risk of a line break was far worse than gain made by filtering the oil of our beloved Hudsons since we change it every 1000 miles anyway.

Then just use hard lines. I never use rubber lines. Fab some out of fuel line. End of problem.

Since I have neither the skills nor the tools to make steel lines, are any of the HET Club members making and selling steel lines for the oil filter?
I'll gladly purchase a set if the cost is reasonable. -
You can also have mine for the cost of shipping, I took it off my hornet when I bought Walt's oil filter unit. It also comes with a new c3 fram filter. Your best bet is to buy Walt's unit, it works really well and is a better filter system.

Here's a picture of one I got from Walt (nice unit, by the way). It's a simple, 20-minute job to install.

Forgive me, I just want to be sure of terminology...
"Bypass" vs. "Flow-thru" -
Bypass = Residual pressure from the oil pump causes some of the oil to go thru the filter. Because it is not directly routed thru the filter (i.e., there is some means to allow oil to go past the filter without running through it), there is no guarantee that the oil is 'well filtered' (if filtered at all (?));
Flow-thru = There is no other/alternate route for the oil to take, it must flow thru the filter, to complete the lubrication 'circuit';
I know there are a number of different ways to describe the process, however is this essentially correct?
And, more importantly - Is there any way to convert a 'bypass' system to a flow-thru system? If so, is there any reason(s) why this should not be done?
Lastly - If it can be done and is a good idea, how do you do it? -

I seem to recall a thread here in '06 or '07 that described how to add an oil filtration system to the pump so it filters 100% of the oil.
However, I can't find it. My Google-fu is not strong today.
