Hi, everybody. Happy to be here... I just got my first classic and I'm looking for a little help.

My 69 Skylark Custom had its engine and tranny replaced several years ago. I've never dealt with a replaced engine... how do I find the engine make and serial? I know it's a Crate, but that's all I know. I know nothing about the tranny. Any advice? Thanks!

Attached some pics of the engine w/valve covers removed.

Here are a couple web sites that should help you. But if it is a Crate engine there probably not a serial number stamped on it.

Thanks, mars55. Without knowing exactly where my engine and tranny are from... how can I determine which oil and trans fluid to use?

A novice question, but I want to be confident about what I'm doing.

I found the casting number on my engine - I have a crate 5.7L 14093638. In Southern California, what's the best oil to use?

By your casting number you have a 1987-95 Chevrolet 350 CID (5.7L) Car & Truck 2 & 4-bolt Passenger, stick with 1-piece seal. As far oil goes this web site is about right.

The transmission is probably a turbo Hydramatic of some kind. You need photos and numbers.
