Needing rear axle spring perch's.

Hey all,
Working on the final stages of getting the 8.8 F__D rear ready to put into my 36T. Cant seem to locate any leaf spring perch's that I am happy with, or are like the originals. They are either too tall or too long. Found some the right 1 3/4" width but they sit 3/4 of an inch away from the axle tube, and need to be almost flat on the tube.
Anyone got an idea or know if somebody has some originals they want to sell?

One alternative would be to grind down the perchs radius until you get the distance you want.

What is the diameter of the axle tubes that the axle shafts run in (and the perches will be welded-to)?

They are the same 2.80 inches as the stock one.

Guess I gotta go out and measure them on my 8.8 rears... Got two that are 'close' to the width (WMS to WMS) of my '39 and '46 trucks (one from a 94 Explorer, and the other from a '99 5.0 Mustang - Explorer has drum brakes, Mustang has disc brakes). Just picked-up the Explorer rear, and haven't gotten around to looking for perches (yet). However online browsing (last night) of perches/mounts for the Explorer rear gave me a different measurment (?).
Am more than curious (now), so 'gotta' go out and measure. LOL! Probably this afternoon, after work...

Thanks Lee, that was kinda my thought as well.
And 46, I know the Explorer rears are like 3.10 inches in dia. That was going to be my initial thought for a rear but too big! Perchs on Mustangs are different and wider as well. Thats what I got mine out of.

Jeff - Yup, understood. My explorer rear is listed as 3.25" dia for the tubes (and 59.5" wide WMS-WMS). Don't know about tube diameter on the '99 Mustang 5.0 rearend (around 61.5" wide WMS-WMS, if I recall correctly). Both are 3.73 gear ratio.
Addendum: Explorer rear confirmed at 3.25", Mustang rear confirmed at 2.8".
What makes the Explorer rear 'too big'? -
When I had the 8.8 Ranger rear set up for my Pacemaker I went to 4 Wheel parts and got perchs. The welder then ground them to sit at the proper angle using my old axle as an example. Think they were for 3 inch axles.

By too big I mean the axle tube diameter as I am keeping the original springs, shock mounts and U bolts.
Thanks Ducor, I hadnt thought about that idea.
I took a 2 3/4 inch hole saw and mounted them in a drill press vise and slowy cut them out. Did a touch of grinding and think the ones I got from Currie will now work!
Guess the welder will tell me when I get to that part.

Hi Jeff - Sorta figured that's what you were referring to. I like the idea of the bigger axle tubes, hopefully equates to a more durable rearend.
Eventually, I'll need to find all the parts-n-pieces, cause very little of those items you mention will work with the rear I got.
Here's a set I'm looking at -
They are for 3.25" tubes, but only come 2.5" wide - so am thinking of getting them, cutting 3/4" out of the center, and welding them in that way. -

those look pretty good. They are cut low so they tuck right against the tube.
You might look at www.Currie Enterprises.com as well. They have a lot.

Jeff - Went out and looked on Currie when you mentioned them.
I actually found these on Summit Racing. They are made by M.O.R.E., which also has its own website.
As I indicated, the only issue I see is that they only come in 2.5" width...
Another place to look is on eBay, which quite a few and a wide variety. That's where I got my an idea of what I was looking-for, and went elsewhere to do more research. Things are often more expensive on eBay, so it is always a good idea to look elsewhere (don't click that "buy" button too quickly!) - Amazon.com is also another place to 'browse' for ideas... -

I do like those! How did they fit arond the axle tube? And do you know what the distance from the tube to the top of the spring perch is?

They fit the tube well. He ground them some to cant them to match the angle that the Hudson springs. I'll try to get by 4Wheel to get stock measurements if them have in stock.
