Get-together at National Meet for Forum Users?
-
How many of you will be in Gettysburg this July? Want to get together for breakfast?
At many past Nationals we've had a "chat breakfast" when denizens of the Hudson Chatroom got to meet each other in person. There's no more chatroom, but we do interact with one another on the Forum, and it might be fun to meet the actual person behind the avatar, so to speak.
Unfortunately, there's no ideal place to hold such a meeting in or near the host hotel, aside of the rather small restaurants in either the Wyndham or Courtyard. Also, breakfast isn't inexpensive at either. There's a country restaurant about two miles down the road...would people be willing to drive that distance at 8 in the morning? In order to plan such an event I'd like to know roughly how many would want to attend, and what their (monetary and travel) constraints are!
Let's have your thoughts. Anyone willing to roll up your sleeves and help plan this? -
If I make it up I would be happy to do this and meet you guys. Which day are you considering?
-
I would love to have breakfast with you Jon. Name the time and place, and i will be there.
Ted Sibole -
I will try to choose a day toward the end of the week so the most people are there, and on a morning when there are no activities scheduled early. However, finding the right place will be difficult if there are too many people. And people will have to be flexible...we'll be competing for table space and decibels with all the other diners. Unless one of you good people wants to fork out $300 to rent a private room...!
-
it would have to be either Fri. or Sat. for me as not flying in until Thurs. late aft.
-
perhaps if everyone chipped in a "coupla quid" we could do the private room?
-
Count me in Jon.
Gene Birdsall -
It's been a year I want to meet you guys. So, count me in. From McDonald's to a bench in the park, any place will do. Michel
-
Want to come, but planning to leave for home/family reunion on Fri morning. Thur would be our best day, early Fri morning next best. Thanks for getting us together, we always enjoy the discussion/info. Thanks, Bob P

Okay, how about 7:45 Friday morning? The tour bus to Robert Blake's excellent "Old Spokes" Hudson museum leaves at 9:00 AM. Plenty of time for folks who wish to do the tour, and the late-risers can drift in later. Where? A fall-back (in terms of price, at least) would be the Courtyard Cafe in the hotel next to the Wyndham (host hotel). It offers a buffet breakfast for $10, though it seats a scant 40. The alternative is the Wyndham "1863 Restaurant" that seats 75, but is a bit pricier. We can rent a room for a mere $300, if someone is feeling generous. Anyway, it's a start. What say, guys and gals?
-
I'll be glad to attend.
-
I am commuting each day (70 or so miles each way), however can surely make it. Whatever day is determined to be the best for all, is fine with me!
-
Jon, no more drinking beer in the parking lot?
-
I would also love to attend. Just make sure to bump this to the top about a week before the National and then I will remember exactly what is happening. What ever day and time works for me.
Todd -
Would it be possible to include the Facebook crowd or is that not in keeping with the intent?
Todd -
Very good idea. I plan to be in Gettysburg for two days and one night. Will try to arrange it so I am there the morning of the breakfast, whatever day you pick.
-
Jon- No problem. I would be happy to.
-Todd -
There won't be room in the meet program for such an announcement. It is at full capacity and soon to go to the printer. However, I am sure the PA Dutch folks will have space allotted at both hotels to post an announcement about a gathering for breakfast. Posting updates on here and Facebook would be the best ways to go.

Just nudging this discussion to the top, temporarily.
Tentatively, we'll meet at 7:45 at the Courtyard Cafe on Friday morning, July 27, and then take our breakfasts to the Hospitality Room for our get-together. This needs to be confirmed but it looks good.
Again, the purpose of our breakfast is for Forum users, Facebook users and former Chatroom users to get together, and "put a face with the name". If you have any questions please contact me at HETdetailed@verizon.net (drop the HET from the address before sending).
Pass the word!
--Jon Battle -
sounds great Jon, look forward to seeing you again
Pete -
Okay, it's set. Friday at 7:45, at the Hospitality room in the Courtyard Hotel. Pick up your breakfast at the Courtyard Cafe first and bring it to the room. (Sorry to say, it won't be quite as cheap as breakfast at your local Mel's Diner, but we can't perform miracles, LOL!)
-
not having a map of the area can you tell me where the Courtyard Hotel is in relation to the Wyndhm? TY
-
Same complex Pete. Walk out the front door of the Wyndham, look slightly to the right, and you will be looking at the Courtyard Hotel. Essentially, they are within a football field's distance (or less) from each other. The Google Map link (below) has the wrong building labeled...

See my attachment - a picture taken from Google Maps, with both the Wyndham Hotel circled (in yellow) and the Courtyard Hotel circled (in red).

that's great Jon, that also helps me with driving in from Baltimore (should get on 15, no north to 30, go east 100' or so, and turn in on Gateway)
TY
Pete -
Yes, definitely a big THANKS for that layout Jon. I had it pretty much in my mind that I'd be coming off I-81 to U S 30 and crossing 15 to the motel. But this makes it much better.

Memphis, TN -
You're welcome, and thank you Jon. I had an interest as well, as I was not sure exactly where the Courtyard hotel was in relationship to the Wyndham Hotel, our 'Meet' area, etc..
Looked at the overhead (satellite view) and had to expand it in - to catch the proximity of I-15. That's how I plan on driving in now as well! Will be a much easier & a bit shorter commute - -
I am not at my best that early in the morning, Jon - but I will try to make it. Good to see the fine tradition continues along.
Just an FYI...there are LOTS of great places to eat in Gettysburg that will not break the wallet. Folks should enjoy all the options available. I have visited there many times, usually on a tight budget and still had great meals. If the Friendly's is still there [like the Big Boy chain]. They have good stuff and there are other nice 'mom & pop' type places all around...

I'm in

I'd probably forget, but could someone try to remember to bring name tags we could stick on after we write our "Handles" on them. Maybe someone has a better idea, I need help remembering the names(Handles). Thanks, Bob P
-
As I have suggested before, I will be wearing a T-Shirt with my avatar and nickname on it. Michel P.S. If interested, T-Shirts can be easily done from home for less than $20. on many drugstore's websites.
P.P.S. tried to post pictures of it but don't know if it worked this time...

I've mentioned the issue with images elsewhere. But if I click those icons, I see the images.
-
that's pretty slick 54, now I have a month to figure out how to do that, LOL!!!
can I do that via Walgreens??????? -
piece of cake, via Walgreens - just had to get photo & add my "handle" to it; should get t-shirt for our Fri. get-together in a few days (had photo in Picasa, easy to do)
-
Yes oldhudsons, easy to do. Wish I could show you the finished product.. But you will see it in Gettysburg. Michel
-
I don't need a t-shirt for ID - I've been around for so long EVERYBODY knows who the agitator in the hat is!!!! LOL What heck, Its Hudsontech!!!!!!!!! Now that said, I should get Aunt Hester a T-shirt - then oldhudsons would be able to find her easier. hehehehehe

Yes Alex, I remind your previous avatar with your hat on, and you always sign: Alex Burr. So, I can bet a lot that I would recognize you a mile away now. But it's not everybody that have put their names or pictures. And I know that you will recognize me cause I O U a beer or other drink.. See you there, Michel.
