    I have someone telling me tappets can be replaced without removing the cam. I don't think so. What say the experts?

    I say you can, why would you want to remove the cam.You can't remove the cam witout removing the tappets.!!

    Huddy's correct, as usual ... just remove the valves and springs and you can remove just the "movable part" of the tappet or the whole tappet-and-cage assembly.

    What's more, you can remove the lifter assembly without removing the cylinder head or valve.
    If you're stuck in a hole, stop digging.
