Expansion Plug or Freeze Plug
-
I am having trouble locating 1 13/16th Freeze plugs for my 232 engine.
Any suggestions? Dorman Part 555-058 is as close as I can get but they are "Special Order." And we are talking 4 weeks "Special Order" from O'Rielly. -
The Dorman Part 555-058 is a shallow cup plug, but I believe the one you need is actually a welch plug (concave disc). There are two companies that list the 1-13/16" size. Hubbard Spring Company has them but they have a minimum 100 box order. Qualcast also lists them, but i don't know what their minimum order requirements are.

Well, the Parts Manual I have says they should be 1 13/16th plugs. I get 1 7/8th, knowing I can file them a tad.
My block has 2" expansion holes. Back to the parts desk. -
Just spoke with Dale Cooper, and he has them. (513) 821-6200. No luck with NAPA ... they list ones on either side of this size but not this one. I suggested to Dale that he list these as an available part, and include one of them with any order for cam bearings, as in most cases the expansion plug has to come out to facilitate installing the rear bearing. Dale sounded agreeable with the suggestion. I expect he'll follow through with it.

Advance Auto has them. Dorman brand, autograde brass, part no. 565-044.1 $3.69 each.

I found it on-line, Park_W. I am getting ready to leave now to get them ordered.
