My 'new' carbs
-
I wish to thank Walt Mordenti for the beautiful restoration of these Twin H carbs to be installed in my son's Hornet. I wish the motor was all together and ready to start, but that will have to wait. If these carbs run as good as they look I know I'll have no problems.

Here's a set that was rebuilt for me by Daytona Parts Company. In Fla and great to work with but right now they have about an 8 week backlog. 245.00 each- look and function like new. surfaces are planed and any missing - damaged parts replaced. Upper Housings are anodized, not painted. They also sell the repair kits for today's gas.

Are those electric chokes? The coils on my WA-1's chokes are all sorts of off, I was thinking of putting some manual kits on but didn't really want to run two pull cables to the dash. Electric would be nice.Six in a row makes it GO!
-
yes, I had electric chokes installed.
-
Daytona Parts just called me this afternoon to tell me mine are finished and will be here tomorow! I'll post pics of them when they arrive. They did take much longer than the three weeks they initially quoted.I told them i wasn't in a hurry so they probably did Kerry's first. LOL.. I had a few really bad parts and had to send them another carb to get enough parts to make two good ones.A bad float bowl that was cracked and a leaking float. Mine cost a little less probably because I didn't have the electric chokes installed.....Can't wait to try them out.
-
@Kdancy, those WA-1's or WE's? I asked Daytona about electric chokes for the WA-1's and the said there are no electric coils for the large cap WA-1.Six in a row makes it GO!

Got here about 6:30 UPS runnin' late! Look too good to hide under the hood..$530.03 total includes shipping to me. I did have shipping to them, but don't remember the total. not cheap.. But quality, like freedom, isn't cheap.

Put 'em on this morning. slightly richend the idle mixture.. Raised the idle speed slightly to compensate for the A/C compressor drag. Runs like it should.
Now how do you edit a post? Can't figure out how to dump the extrta picture. Dang i am much better at fixin cars than these danged computer thing. -
SuperDave - when you make your post there is an edit button top after your user name and time.

Walt's great and I have his tech books, but Daytona is much closer to the east coast guys and they are tremendous with after tech support. Best carb company I've dealt with and I now only deal with them when I want a restored carb. I'm also close enough that if needed, I can get them to adjust the carb or carbs on a running project. And, I know all their work is done "in house".
-
Kerry,
Agreed. I wouldn't want anyone to get the idea we don't appreciate Walts contribution. I posted only because this was a "My Carb" thread. Never hurts to share experiences with the various vendors. Looks like there are two good sources for rebuilds and on both coasts..
While corresponding with Daytona.. I mentioned that the carbs on my car had the Ball check float valves. Bought from Craig in Colorado.I had experienced some stalling on quick stops.. Mostly with the air conditioning on. I suspected a float level problem since it felt like flooding... I was told by Daytona that there was a problem with the ball check valves.. he said that the constant flow of fuel over the ball would magnetize the ball and cause problems. Daytona has thier own design of the float valve that is different than any other..no ball..no Viton. I am going to take my old ones apart and see for myself if the float level is the correct 1/2 inch. Also will check to see if there seems to be any residual magnatization. I'l report what I find. I do know that the stuck float problem was bad upon startup after long storage periods (several weeks) went away when I installed the ball check valves.I was happy with my experience with Craig's float valves. I also use a ball check valve (called Grosejet?) in my Model a Ford without any problems.
See ya at WW Springs this weekend ? PS sending you a PM -
Kdancy, could you elaborate on the electric chokes? Are those Carter WE's or WA-1's?Six in a row makes it GO!
-
I checked the Craig valves in my old WA-1 carbs. .. They appear to be stainless and are not attracted to a magnet at all. One of my carbs had a float setting that was way off and that probably was my flooding problem on hards stops. The Craig valves are still functioning fine after several years. I'll clean these carbs up and put them away for emergency spares.
-
David C, If carbs are going to set for awhile, don't leave them in a garage or shed. spiders like to make their home in them. Store where spiders are not around. They can mess up the inside. Walt.
-
Grim-- these were WE's for a Studebaker Champion I built.
-
Thanks Kdancy. I figured as much, but wasn't sure you did something 'wild' with those carbs. WE airhorn/choke on a WA-1... they sure look the same aside from that.Six in a row makes it GO!

Been running on a set of 2113S's Walt did for me over two years ago now, and they still work great and look great. His prices were very reasonable with a fast turnaround time. Give him a call...Cheers, Bob
