1979 olds 98 - fan does not work on high
-
Good morning
I have a 79 olds regency 98. The switch for the fan on the dash works on all the lower settings but does nothing on the high setting. How do I figure out where the problem is/fix it? Thanks. -
Sounds like the blower motor resistor. Usually mounted on the evaporator housing on the firewall.

Sounds like the High blower relay has gone bad. should be mounted on heater duct work passenger side. Replace a bunch of these over the years. Should be available at local parts store. AC Delco # 15 8106 BWD # R808 Factory Air # 35911. These are from Advance Auto Parts site. ( I work at Advance) Some stores stock it or can get it PDQ. Check wire plug at relay,- known for main wire overheating. NAPA, Auto Zone, etc. good possibility also.

I have a 79 Cutlass that has also not had the blower working on high for years. Recently their is no fan speeds. The blower has a good ground. The resistor shows continuity through all terminals. Doing some other testing I could get the fan to move slightly and their was very low voltage. Would this still be my resistor?

To Check fan motor it self run a hot wire from battery direct to post on fan motor. If it spins normal problem elsewhere, if spins real slow or not at all motor is bad. Not unusual for motor to be bad, Replaced a bunch of those over the years also. Hope this helps

I have connected a wire from my + battery to my blower. That works. The ground for the blower shows continuity to the frame. I have switched out the blower resistor. Fan still does not work. Could it be the switch in the dash. How do I test to see if thats the problem or if their is something else wrong? All the fuses are good that was the first thing I checked.

I don't know if its related but I just realized I don't have dash lights either.
